Clorazepate Withdrawal

My doc wants me to go off clorazepate. I have been on it for 25 years. I was wondering if the side effects of clorazepate withdrawal, is the same as some of the other stronger benzo's? I take 3.75 a day.. Half in the morning and half at night. What would a taper be like and how should I do it? Anyone done it and can tell me what to expect?

Yes, it can cause the same withdrawal effects, which the FDA lists as possibly including nausea, fever, chills, dizziness, irritability, and rebound anxiety.

As to the taper, only your doctor can tell you how to do so safely, but the modern preferred method is usually to have someone start taking doses further and further apart, while also gradually lowering them.

Are you on any other medications?

You should not stop abruptly, as that may create the risk of seizures.

Thank you.. I am tapering slower than she wanted. I fear the anxiety coming back.

And is this a milder medication than the other benzo's, as that is what my prescribing doctor told me years ago. Will withdrawal be easier?
