my dr prescribed this med for a infection. The Dr. or the pharmacy neglected to tell me that you are not supposed to take antacids with this med. When I got Home I read the paperwork and the warning was also on the bottle. I have to take antacids 2x a day for my GURD. I stopped taking the antacids. What would happen if I had take my regular doses of antacids.

If you take it with regular antacids, such as the calcium based ones like Tums, it can cause less of the medication to be absorbed, so it isn't as effective.

With Ciprofloxacin, you should make sure to take these types of antacids 6 hours away from the antibiotic.

This doesn't apply, however, if you are taking some other type, such as the proton pump inhibitors that are sold as generics, as well as under name brands like Prilosec, because they don't coat the stomach to prevent absorption of the medication.
