Hi there the side effects are crazy for some people it causes suicidal thoughts, depression, different mood swings or you can break out crying for no apparent reason. If these occur quit taking them immediately and go see your doctor.

In order to get your trial set, you need to pay a visit to the doctor. Just tell them you want to quit smoking and have heard of chantix/champex. Its called champex in Canada too. They will be more than happy to prescribe it. The first session is the trial period so its supposed to be for 2 weeks and the doses are less strong. 0.5mg per day and overtime the doses increase and you take them twice a day. Drug works like a charm. However, keep in mind the drugs DOES have side effects as well. Eat well before you take it and drink lots of water. I had lot of nausea and vomited a couple times while on it. Hope this helps

I just finished my dosage of Chantix about 5 days ago. I have not smoked in 2 months and have not really had the urge to. Right now my struggle is the side effects. I'm very emotional and stomach hurts (nausea). I'm hoping it leaves my system soon so I can mentally get back to normal because the emotional roller coaster is killing me and very stressful on the body and mind…but I strongly recommend Chantix if you can handle the mental side effects.

you are supposed to take the starter pack for about 2 weeks, then set a date to quit. I cut down during that time, then stopped smoking after 3 weeks of taking the pills. It really has helped me! I still have some rough moments, but it is way easier this time. Don't think it will do all the work for you, you have to have some resilience and will power, but it certainly helps. Keep on it for 12 weeks in total.

phone the number on the cigarette pack (Canada). it's totally free. you can choose between the patch, the pill, or the gum I believe. i am going to talk to my Dr. about the pill today. have tried the patches, and even bought a vaporizer to no avail. Actually after using the vaporizer for more than 6 months my breathing seems worse:/

I quit 20 months ago, without help, cold turkey. I didn't sleep for the first 72 hours and have on going bouts of insomnia. In a year and a half I've gained 55 lbs. i did get my breath back and senses of smell and taste. it wasn't easy... actually it was the hardest thing I've ever done. I, however, wasn't willing to risk the possibility of mental illness as a side effect of using a drug to quit, even with a very small chance of it. Champex has these side effects almost 100% of the time. It's not worth the risk. Quit with will power and you can tell others you did the hardest thing ever in your life.

My husband has been on champix for 7 weeks now and has had no side affects. If anything his moods have changed for the better. He is happier, relaxed and said it's the best thing he has ever done. He's been a smoker for 40 years and would recommend champix to anyone.

I don't want to smoke any more. The craving is really bad. Could champex take the cravings away? I can't cope with it any more.

I took champex for two weeks and have never in my life felt so terrible - suicidal thoughts and severely depressed. My husband threw the remainder of the pills away. Please be very careful when taking this medication.

The depression/suicide was a newspaper story concocted by one of the more sensational British papers - further detailed research showed the depression/suicide rate was exactly the same in Champex users as in smokers (non-smokers have a slightly lower rate overall, another good reason to quit!)

I am using Champex for 4 weeks now and haven't smoked a cigarette in 3 weeks. Didn't gain any weight and didn't get any real side effects. 1 or 2 wacky dreams, but that's about it. I still crave cigarettes but nothing I can't handle. Thank you Champex!!!!

I have smoked for 43 years, hard core...in the last year had 2 heart attacks, now own 3 stents in my heart. I am clinically depressed, have been for 10 years. I still smoke. I tried the patch, darn things just slide off me. I get nauseated on the gum. I want to quit, I want to live. I just can't stop smoking. I am sitting here with a prescription in my hand, all ready to try it. Then I started reading, now I don't know what to do. There are so many good points made for both sides. I really want to live, but already am on so much meds from everything else.....on the other hand...my doc is no dummy,....help?!

No it isn't supposed to make cigarettes taste bad. The whole idea is that after the 8th day at latest that you have completely stopped smoking altogether. That means not even one smoke per day or week or month. No smoking. Champex/Chantix or whatever it is called in your country is a neurological blocker for the nicotine receptor in your brain. It kills the craving for nicotine but not the habit you have formed.

Ok, so I decided to try the Champix, even though I am clinically depressed, etc,. (as I mentioned in my last post). So I am on my 4th month with the Champix. What I liked was that I could smoke like normal and see what happens. What happened was somewhere, I quit smoking without even realizing it. I just forgot to smoke! By not setting a date, the pressure was off and no side effects. My husband was so impressed he asked his doctor for Champix, but came home with Zyban. He does not like it but is willing to keep on. So disappointed his doctor did not recommend Champix. He already is experiencing some awful sleep side effects. The story continues....more in a few months.

I use Chantix before and it worked. months later I stupidly started again and now would like to use it again but I cannot get it covered because champex only support you quittin smoking once in your lifetime. if you try to quit again it will not give you a discount and you have to pay full price. does anyone have any information on this or how to get around and be able to get a discount on the product?
