Can You Take Klonopin And Fentinal Together

Updated

I have insomnia (server case) and was recently given fentinal patches to help with chronic back pain. Can you combine klonopin while wearing a patch? I take 3mg of klonopin to sleep. First day on the patch

You would normally ask a Doctor that question?

Hello, Mert! How are you?

Eddy is correct. You really do need to double check this, because both of these medications can cause depression of your central nervous system and too much depression of it could result in coma or death.

Were they prescribed by the same doctor?

Two different doctors. One for Pain Management and a psychologist. I just stopped the klonopin..... and sleeping :-(

If you just stopped 3 mg of Klonopin to sleep, get back on them! The problem when we go to two doctors, we make stupid decisions and can DIE. You right now are at risk for a stroke or worse yet, death?

Mert as we know the Psychologist can't prescribe medicine so the big question, where did the benzos coming from?

Klonopin has long half life. Don't frighten people unnecessarily. he needs medical attention, but this isn't a sober acting bento such as Halcion or Xanax!

Psychologists are NOT licensed prescribers except for being permitted to write for a few psych drugs in New Mexico.

A psychologist cannot prescribe anything, let alone a Schedule IV benzodiazepine. 3mg is a heavy starting dose for Klonopin, absent a hx of tx with benzos. If benzes work for you for sleep, I don't think I'd consider Klonopin because it's too long-acting and, in combination with Fentanyl, there would be one helluva drug hangover resulting. This doesn't make sense. If I were prescribing a benzo for sleep for a Fentanyl patient, I probably wouldn't. I'd use Ambient in whatever dose was effective. If I did write for a benzo, the longest-acting drug I'd consider would be Rectorial (temazepam). Something's not right here, beginning with your assertion that one prescriber is a psychologist. (If you live in NM, it's POSSIBLE that a Clinical psychologist [PhD or PsyD] could have taken the courses and passed the exam for the Prescriptive Privilege, but it wouldn't cover opiates — benzos, only.)

Is this your first time using the patch? How long have you been on Klonopin? I know that from what I read and what I was told by my pain Doctor, Who just now told me after two years which upsets me, but he told me that he wanted me to go off of Klonopin or he was going to reduce my pain medicine which is not cool because I am on a level of Hydromorphone which controls my pain so I'm in a position right now where I'm not sure what to do except find another pain doctor who would be cool with it. I get my Klonopin from a different doctor and I have been getting Klonopin for 7 years so it's not like I can snap my fingers then be ok without being on Klonopin. I take it for anxiety and sleep just like you but I do not like having to choose between controlling pain or controlling anxiety since I need to control them both. This pain doctor has known for two years that I have been on Klonopin plus he has had me on the same level of hydromorphone for 2 years but he has not once asked me to go off of Klonopin until my last visit. He did tell me about a year or so ago not to take them at the same time so I would not take them both at bedtime if I were you. The only other thing the doctor told me about the Klonopin was that he could not raise my pain meds and I was okay with that because my pain was being controlled. I am upset because he waited 2 years to come up and want to have me jerked off of them in three months time after I have personally been on them for 7 years. My doctor who prescribes Klonopin said that the best way to reduce is by one pill a month but even if I did that it would take time to get it out of my system and it still would not provide a clean drug panel on my next visit to the pain doctor. I mean by one pill a month is if your taking 3 pills a day then reduce it to two pills a day for a month then the next month go down to one pill a day for a month as I've been on four a day so I needed to go down to 3 a day for a month then two a day for a month and so forth. I don't know about anyone else but I think it was unprofessional that this pain doctor just comes up the way he did and wants me to go off of this other medicine so fast after treating me for two years knowing I have been on the same medicine all this time. He never spends even 5 minutes in the room with me and I learned that he is like that with most other people too because I read reviews online about him the other day. I do not mind if he does not spend time with me unless it has to do with something like the last visit and not having time to ask him questions. He would not even tell me how far he would reduce my medicine down or whether he would change it all together so I am in the dark on that issue. I even called back to the office to find out if they could recommend something other than Klonopin for my anxiety but not antidepressants because I can't handle them and also I asked them if they knew how far down he would reduce my medicine but nobody's even bothered to call back. The only time they called back was the very first time I called them which was a week after the appointment and I was asking for suggestions but I meant on the medicine. They actually told me that the only options I had were to go off of the Klonopin to get the same level of pain meds. Or stay on the same level of Klonopin I am on now and have my medicine reduced or I could look for another pain doctor who would accept me being on Klonopin plus maybe giving me the same level of pain meds. That is not an easy choice to make no matter how you look at it. I read good reviews on him before I started going to him two years ago but he has changed according to the reviews I read the other day like he just doesn't care about his patients anymore. I have already started looking for a new pain doctor so anyone in the North Carolina area who knows of a great pain doctor who does not mind giving pain meds that actually work and has compassion please let me know. I tried Fentanyl patches myself but they did not work too well for me. The fentanyl lollipops work pretty good which I was given one time for migraines but it is only a short-term treatment. I would talk to your doctor which is the best option for most people who have questions about medicines mixing together. Good luck with the patch.
