I have been on this medication since tuesday (and have not experienced any side effects) when I thought my wound was infected, but it was not. My doctor gave me about 25 pills to take as a precaution to avoid it getting infected in the future. If I do not take the pills for 36 hours, will I be able to drink alcohol without having side effects? Also, what is the likelihood of my wound getting infected if I do not take the antibiotic for over 48 hours?

Hello, Colleen! How are you?

It is really best to abstain from alcohol, while taking any prescription medication. When you imbibe while on an antibiotic, it can cause worsening of the side effects, so you may experience nausea, dizziness and drowsiness. It can cause one drink to affect you as if you'd had 2 and so on.

And taking a break from the antibiotic can allow bacteria to repropagate, which may result in an infection.

Normal side effects to this antibiotic may include nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea.

Is there anything else I can help with?
