Can Oxiracetam Be Taken With Pradaxa

My mom was prescribed piracetam along with pradaxa after a stroke. Oxiracetam is more potent than piracetam, but I am not sure whether she should switch. She is 88 and had a stroke a month and a half ago. What is the effect of nootropics on the thinning of blood, especially when one takes Pradaxa? What is the effect on blood pressure?

Sorry to hear about the recent stroke your mom had. I hope she's well on her way to doing better. I too have read that Oxiracetam is more effective than Piracetam for improving various brain disorders, including dementia. However I have yet to come across any specific details that evaluate it's safety along with a pharmaceutical preparation such as Pradaxa. For some reason drug interaction checkers typically only work on pharmaceutical meds and not too many types of dietary supplements.

But if it's of any help, nih.gov has a list of contraindications associated with nootropic drugs like Piracetam/Oxiracetam and from what I've seen doesn't display any precautions advising it against patients who have blood pressure problems. In any case, I think it would still be wise to speak with your doctor first before taking something along with a med that he/she prescribed... this way you can be rest assured that there wont be any problems.
