Butorphanol For Cats
UpdatedMy 8.5lb cat had 4 surgeries; 1)cystotomy, 2)pu, 3)feeding tube x2. He is finally home. If anything will go wrong everything has gone wrong with this poor cat. Now he strains to urinate and was urinating blood last night. Vet seemed to think it was a blood clot, I concur, I saw one now no more blood this a.m. Fir his straining he was prescribed butorphanol 10mg/ml. Label reads: 1cc butorphanol in 10cc lixotinic as flavor agent, give o.25-0.4cc by mouth 1-4 times daily as needed for urinary straining. At 12:30pm today, first dosage i gave him 1.0 ml, I overdosed him according to instructions. I have only had 4 hours of total sleep in 48 hours because of his situation. He has not presented with any major symptoms. He has eaten on his own, urinates better, he dies stare out the oucture window but he used to do this before all this. His pupils are reactive to light and seems normal. I called the vet and he suggested to take him in overnight for observation since he presented sensitivity to the opioids while in their care. Of course, this cat was born stressed. We only have 1 car and I am waiting for my husband. Would I have followed dosage instructions he would be getting a 0.4 dose at 6:30pm and another 0.4 dose atfluctuate.exceeding the 1.0ml dose I gave him earlier. Have I overdosed him? Dosages may work differently if given all at once and this may be one of those meds that cannot fluctuate. If I take him in he is only going to get stressed and agitated by being surrounded by all the othervanimals at the vet hospital. They are open for emergencies until 12 midnight.
