Bad Reaction Medrol And Sam-e

I was prescribed medrol pack for sciatica. I had been taking a sam-e supplement (600 mg/day) for OA for the last 1.5 years with good results. Although I stopped the sam-e while on the medrol, I had horrible insomnia anxiety, depression, HBP, rapid HR and 0 appetite. It's been 3 weeks off and I'm still suffering from some of the side effects. A nurse at mayo said that I still had an ample amount of sam-e in my system and suffered a severe reaction with the medrol. Anyone out there ever experienced sam-e with steroids and when will this clean out of my system!

Hello, Oliver! How are you? I'm very sorry about the problems you've had.

However, everything you've listed as typical side effects for a steroid like Medrol, as listed by the FDA, and it usually takes a couple weeks for it to all settle back down, once you finish it.

There are no reported problems between taking it with SAMe, though no deliberate studies have been done, but I highly doubt it had much to do with it, your symptoms are most likely just due to taking the steroid.

I was on it for an allergic reaction last year and experienced the same symptoms, until about a month after I had finished it.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks things started to subside finally, but only within the last few weeks. My heart rate has come down, but an ekg showed right atrial enlargement which wasn't there 5 years ago and I've read it can be a SE of this drug. I jut started sleeping a little better this past week. It's been 9 weeks since finishing this drug. Hopefully I'll never have to take it again!
