Do atorvastatin calcium tablets cause breathlessness and heavy breathing if the tablet is taken after a meal, particularly when one is walking after having eaten and taken the tablet? If so, what does it mean?

From my records I did not find anything stating that atorvastatin causes breathlessness or heavy breathing. There are other side effects while taking atorvastatin diarrhea, constipation, passing gas, headache, insomnia, joint pain, and/or dizziness.

Hi Doctor.
My doctor has put me on Atorvastatin tablets 10mg. My cholesterol level went up from 4.3 to 7.7 after I stopped taking them for 2 months. I found my joints were aching and reading what side effects can happen. Aching joints & breathlessness were 2 side effects which I never suffered from before. I stopped taking the tablets for 2 months & slowly the joint aches went away. Was able to hold things without dropping them. Went back to check my cholesterol & found it had shot up to 7.7 so she suggested that I go to 10mg and see how that goes. Since I have been on this dosage the aches have started up again and I am now using an inhaler for my breathing. My cholesterol is back down to 4.3 now. Am I able to have a break, say every 2 or 3 months? My doctor has said that being Maori we are at a higher risk of heart attacks and strokes. I have always been fit, walking and running after grandchildren which I really enjoy, but find it hard to do those things sometime. Definitely not overweight and never have been. Would just like my old self back again at being a fit again 63 year grandmother.
Thanks and look forward to your reply.

I took Atorvastatin 10 mg for at least 20 years. I stopped taking it in March 2016 and I'm a bit uneasy because my cholesterol has risen a bit. But there were problems while taking it. The muscle pains are still with me, but I can breathe much better. There was nasal stuffiness all the time and some wheezing after taking it at night. I don't see these symptoms often in others.
