Antibiotics are used to help treat or prevent infections. If there is an infection bacteria causing the diarrhea then it would be used to help rid the body of the infectious bacteria, such as that which caused Typhoid.

My 10 year old son has been having typhoid fever for 14 days. Antibiotics were started in last 10 days. Initially, the dosage was 10 ml Azee OD for 5 days + 10 ml Cefixime BD, but his fever was still high so the dr has increased his dose and started Azee again which was stopped after a 5 day course. Now the dosage was increased to 6 ml Azee TDS and 10 ml Cefixime TDS, but still his fever is 103. Is the dose right or too high as his weight is 35 kg? Is the treatment correct? If so, why has his fever not gone down?Otherwise, his appetite has improved n abdominal pain is also not there, but loose motions are still there; albeit less frequent.
