Amphetamine Salts - Side Effects

My son switched from Concerta to the generic version Adderall (b973 orange pill) several months ago. Recently he has been experiencing the following problems - sleeplessness, extreme restlessness, loss of appetite, headaches, upset stomach and even had a bout with vomiting one day. I would like him to change medications but how do we wean him and what medications can you suggest? He is an adult, but does not think it is the medication but believes he needs some other medication to counteract this. Please give me your thoughts.

You really shouldn't adjust his medications on your own, you need to consult with his doctor about the problems he is having.

These are normal side effects to the Mixed Amphetamine salts, for most people they taper off after a few weeks, however, some people continue to have problems with them and have to have a dosage adjustment or switch medications.

If he was doing better on the Concerta, he may need to go back to that.


Ultimately, though, since he is an adult, unless there is a problem for which you still have custody and control over him, then there isn't much you can do, the final decision is up to him, due to health care privacy laws and personal responsibility.
