9 Year old was at dr today for stomach flu. Called in rx to pharmacy. When I arrived home now I see it says 4pills 1 time daily so that would be 2000 mg at once for 10 that safe ?

Hello, Kathy! How is your son doing?

Why was it prescribed for flu? Antibiotics are only effective at treating bacterial infections, as listed by the FDA, they will not treat the flu, which is caused by a virus. Unless he has developed some type of infection, then it isn't appropriate. Typical side effects are listed as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea.

As to the dosage, that's not too much in a day, though it may cause more side effects than lower dosages, but it is also usually split up and taken 2 to 3 times daily.

Have you double check with their doctor as to why this was prescribed?
