My wisdom teeth have been coming in and I can't afford a dentist trip right now. And when I eat, food gets stuck up in/under one of my wisdom teeth, thus, causing an infection. I have 9 AMOX-CLAV 875-125 (substitute for Augmentin) left. Would/will that be enough to treat my infection? Is it more than enough? Not enough/need more? And would it even be useful for me to take those for a toothach/infection?

Please reply/respond if you have any knowledge on this, or would be able to offer advice & answer my questions! Please&thank you all! :)

Hello, Allison! How are you?

No, you'd need at least 14 of them, 2 a day for 7 days, taking too few creates the risk of your developing antibiotic resistant bacteria.

The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea.

And I have to ask, how do you know you have an infection? A doctor or dentist would be required to diagnose that. If you are just feeling pain and irritation, that doesn't necessarily mean it's infected.

I have amox/k clav 500mg, this was for a chest congestion I had several months back but doc rx'd me something else. It is still closed and sealed. Directions are to take 2 a day for 10 days. Can I take it for a wisdom tooth that is fully grown out and gums around it are painful and swollen. I cannot afford a dentist right now. Thank you.
