Alvogen Percocet 7.5 325 Needs To Be Recalled

I have been taking generic Watson for two torn meniscus surgeries including taking the brand. After getting this latest prescription filled by ALEVGON there is a serious problem with the medication. I consulted both of my nephews who are chief pharmacists at top philadelphia hospitals and they both explained that not only the binders different but there is a sliding scale that each generic company can use which takes the narcotic pain reliever as far down as 85 percent! With that said in addition to the first pill taken i became violently ill, throwing up and dizzy! Believe me no matter what anyone says just ask a pharmacist and he will be very clear on this and other manufactures which included Mallenkorpt which was recalled last year pulling the same crap. I emailed the manufactor this evening and bring it to the attention of my doctor first thing in the morning.

No medication will ever be recalled for being in that allowable window, which you've called the 'sliding scale". It is allowed by law and the FDA is fully aware of it, since they are the ones that created the law allowing it. You can find the details on it under the Hatch-Waxman Act of 1984.

To help keep prescription drug prices down and to create market competition, so they come to market faster, there is an allowable difference of plus or minus 20% of the active ingredients between the name brand medication and the generics. The FDA considers this an acceptable therapeutic window and in most cases, it doesn't even amount to a difference of a milligram in the dosage.

This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

For most people, it has no effect and any given generic will work as well for them as any other. However, some people are sensitive to any slight fluctuation in a medication and may find that one works better for them than another, or may not work, at all.

Since it made you dizzy and ill, that actually means that the medication you received that was manufactured by Alvogen is probably stronger than the prior one that you were taking, not weaker.

And, as I said, no drug will be recalled for this, as long as they are within that window of plus or minus 20%.

Ummm not to be intrusive but ...torn meniscus (one or two) don't normally require repeated or prolonged use of narcotics like Percocet or its generics. Physical therapy is what most medical providers would recommend. Safe, effective, non-addictive ... and no generics to be all worried about either.

They need to recall the alvogen percets got a b 12 shot as normal and took this crap and ended up in the hospital

Exactly! Why would someone need to be on long term pain medication after having the torn meniscus fixed??? I always hear this, people having surgeries, like knee replacements and are still on long term pain medications, like WHY would you still need pain medication with a NEW knee?? I have lived with a torn meniscus for 8 years and my knee stays swollen and it's very painful but I do not get pain medication for it. Why have surgery if you're still going to require pain medication?? What's the point? I have relatives who have both had surgeries to repair whatever it was that required them to be on heavy duty narcotics and low and behold 10 years later they're still on them!!!!

Ty Dollar Sign....while I agree, many out there are in it for the opiates. YES. You are right! But, I find your logic very skewed by your own story. Your story is your barometer for how others should behave. I see you do have many painful conditions, that I, train wreck that I am, probably could not deal with. That being said, there are a few comments you've made that show your ignorance about certain conditions. Such as migraines. I have a close friend who has migraines that last a month, with maybe a week until the next. These cause vomiting, blackouts, and head banging pain. Opiates are just one aspect of her pain control. Even with them, she ends up in er almost monthly for dehydration from vomitting, afib, and has had 2 heartattacks due to unmanaged pain. And what does ER do for her? Drugs to manage the unmanageable at home.

You seem to think of cancer as an exception that allows for painmeds. I happen to agree. But you do know many types of cancer cause little to no pain. Yet the cancer patients are just as likely to abuse pain meds as anyone else. Why? Well, because, they have cancer after all!

Well, guess what? There are conditions that aren't going to kill you, yet are considered suicide diseases. Why? Unremitting agony. Just because there are not visible tells, doesnt mean the pain isn't debilitating. So you may want to widen your window as to who should and should not be allowed relief.

I certainly get your disgust over relatives that use silly excuses to be given meds they have no business to be on. Agreed.

About people who have had total knee replacement. I've had both done. And though the mechanics are better both cause so much pain my legs shake. My function is NOT better. My degree of bend is worse. Thing is...a new knee doesn't come along with non inflamed connective tissues! The new knee often causes MORE inflammation that Tylenol and advil doesn't touch. We get the replacement because eventually we will be crippled. A new knee prevents that. But to say what you said makes you look ignorant. Obviously your posts show intelligence and are fairly well spoken, though filled with wrong headed opinion.

I've only named a few conditions you yourself brought up. There are so many conditions that do indeed require meds. And...they are not cancer. Look up trigeminal neuralgia, to name just one. Opiates are not the answer to controlling the facial electric shocks, but do control type2, which is a constant horrible ache that makes it almost impossible to chew.

Before you come in guns blazing, just know, your experience of pain is YOURS alone. Quit thinking your opinion is the bottom line. So much you know...but much more you have no clue about! Admit it and apologize to those you've hurt by painting everyone with the same broad brush. Tough love, huh? Yeah, you sure told them! Again, many need to be cut off, but there are many who absolutely do need treatment and your attitude, shared by others, is the last thing they need. Please, be considerate.
