Yes there is a alternate to Donnatal it is a generic brand called Belladonna-Phenobarbital elixer it is a lime green color its thin and it tastes horrible! I also had.severe cotton mouth. U can always add a little karo syrup to it to make it tastes better.

I use belladonna as an alternative to Donnatal. Mine are capsules and don't taste anything. I know that dry mouth can be a side effect, but it is not bad enough to be unpleasant for me.

I was on Donnatal for 40 years for IBS but it has been discontiued. My Dr. put me on Bentyl and it is working very well. It comes in generic and my co-pay is only $10.

It may be available but it is so expensive that no one can buy it... Most insurance companies will no longer cover it. I have used it for decades, and am at a real crossroads as to what to do.

I also was put on donnatol for IBS and was having bad side effects like cotton mouth, etc so I asked the doctor if there was anything else that he could give me something else for the IBS and he started me on bentyl and I have been on it for approximately 10 years with no problems.

I have been on Bentyl for 10+ years and it no longer works. My doc prescribed Donnatal and a coupon for the first month. As my insurance won’t cover any of the cost the coupon was rejected and the cost is $485/month.
Any suggestions?
