No. You have a generic Buspar. 15 mg. Xanax only comes in .25, .5, 1, 2mg doses also a 3mg XR version

I tried Buspar. I told my doctor I wanted to go back on Xanax, skip the Buspar refills. It helped with my social anxiety, my worst anxiety, about as well as Librium. In other words, it didn't do a thing.

@Roger,

Have you tried any alternative therapies for managing the feelings of social anxiety? I sometimes get social anxiety too, and in the past have had it real bad due to deeper insecurities, such as being out of shape, not feeling/looking my best, etc, etc - which I gradually worked on improving, until I decided to stop caring about what other people thought of me...at least to a large degree. Basically I found that it's more or less a psychological barrier that has to be taken down in order to get rid of the intense feelings and build up of emotional energy that accumulates the more we focus on the problem actually being a problem.

No med can help it 'indefinitely', because the underlying core of the issue is something we have to work on ourselves.

Maybe focusing on meditation and visualizing positive social encounters a few moments before going outside would be a step in the right direction? I'm not a psychologist by any means, but this is just what has worked for me so I thought I'd share.

Best of luck to you all on overcoming this!

What? Not on my watch. Mother's little helper, that little blue pill, I much prefer. It's a whole lot easier, much less time consuming, and imo not one bit dangerous. Yes, the first sentence was a bit on the sarcastic joking side, but I truly believe taking a pill in many instances is an ideal way to make a problem one that can be tolerated and not put a person on hold forever. Every single case is different, that I will always say, but I will never disagree with getting help from the little blue pill. It's every bit as essential to my life as the anti-depressant I take and you'll just have to trust me on that one, but it saved my life.

Upon re-reading my response, it sounded a bit flippant and I wanted to apologize for that. Actually, Xanax doesn't even help with my social anxiety when it comes to being in a large group, which I make sure is a rare occasion. Alcohol, which I really don't care for one way or another, is the only thing that makes me comfortable in a social gathering. Xanax offers the help I need to get out of the house and go to the grocery store instead of looking in the cabinet to see if there's a can of something that makes it possible to not leave my house.

To give you a clear example, I have opted for a can of whole kernel corn before going to the store. I have opted for not eating.

It's a long story that I'll try to keep short, but last Saturday my truly best and only real friend, of 30 years, had their wedding reception. He can't drink any longer. Not alcoholism, but liver nonetheless. Out of respect, and the fact that most of the people involved don't go to something like this event to get drunk, the only refuge I sought, and found peace in, was my time with the dogs away from people.

What I should have done, for the sake of being more participatory at their reception, was actually take my morning Xanax and then taking two when I got out their, or rather when people started showing up, and downing a beer. No, not to get f****d up, but to relax. That's how it is. It isn't agoraphobia either, I just don't like to leave my house. Unless it's just me going out to their place alone.

Smiling. Someone else who remembers good old good for nothing Librium. I only took a few Buspar's but I've been on benzo's for over 20 years, and my dosage has varied minimally. I take 2 1/2 1mg Xanax throughout the day. What I mean is 1 in the morning, 1/2 in the afternoon, and one at night. I find Xanax and Valium very similar except I'll just never get over my love affair of Valium, which I took 20 mg daily, and Ativan 3 mg per day. Ativan "worked" but not as well.

One time I brought up the worthlessness of Librium to my doctor and he chuckled and said "Yeah, you do go back if you know Librium." I didn't even think they bothered with that anymore. Ativan seems to be the benzo of the day from overly cautious doctors. And boy, could we talk about social anxiety.

Nothing I've ever taken really helps with that other than alcohol and I don't really care for alcohol in a large social setting. I want control of myself. I have a very minimal social life, so my 2.5 milligrams of Xanax work for me just fine for all around Anxiety. Haven't had an attack, or a severe attack, in almost 6 years.

This is only meant for people who are truly looking for anxiety relief. I should also mention I've been on benzo's over 20 years daily.

So maybe if you increased your dose to the Valium amt perhaps it would work as well? Oh sorry you take more Xanax than Valium now correct? I am surprised you don't like the instant effects of Xanax? :)
