Tatiana...you have given me hope. I have been so frustrated with the expense of Adderall XR/ Amphetamine Salts SR and have been trying to find a more affordable drug. Quite frankly, it's not working out well. I have been incredibly stressed over the financial strain of trying to afford this medication. Thank you for taking the time to share your valuable research.

Obamacare is not a done deal and has nothing to do with the price of your Adderall! Seriously check the facts before you speak. If every one has insurance we won't be paying for all the people who chose to just go to the emergency room and then leave the rest of us with the bill! Also prescriptions in the US are higher than all other Westernized countries. Don't you think it's time to deal with that?

Indeed. I, too, am feeling the financial strain of needing Adderall. I am a veteran, and the VA will prescribe it to me; however, because it is "non-formulary" they will not fill the prescription. Because I am out of the military and currently in law school, insurance options are limited. I am going to try the options you all have listed, so thank you very much for all of the information.


And you are correct, prescriptions in America are more expensive than everywhere else in the world. Pharmaceutical (sp?) companies make all of their profit in America because of laws that were passed banning importing prescription drugs from other countries (even if they have higher quality standards in the other countries). While this legislation may have been necessary at some point to ensure quality and deter fake medications, it is only still in place because the pharmaceutical companies are in the politicians pockets, on both sides (not attacking either party - because we only get 2 in this great country of ours). Just a little sidenote about why our prescriptions are so much more than every other country.

I was prescribed 30 mg adderall XR & was also surprised with how costly it is. Not able to find any coupons for adderall I had my M.D change my prescription to vyvanse 70 mg (also made by Shire), which works just as good without the harsh side effects such as headaches & just feeling drained by late afternoon. It is very costly beings it's a new drug but there is a 'Patient Assistance Program' in which I pay $0 to fill my prescription (depending on your household income). Please see link below. Your best option is to buy the generics, it will save you quite a lot. If you combine it with a drug discount card it could save an additional 30 to 50%

Myself and my 9 year old daugher is on Adderol XR and the i use to have insurance called Family health plus and child health plus and they are telling me i make to much money and my job doesn't give out insurance. Every insurance company that I try to go to tells me that ADHD is a pre-existing condition and will not be covered for at least 1 year. My daugher is having a hard time in school and is failing every subject. Please I need help getting this RX. I don't have the money to get a new supply. Can someone please help me? I am so desperate right now. I will do any thing. thank you to everyone who can help me.

I tried to use a savings card at CVS for Adderall XR, I was told they will not accept the card for controlled medication. But will for uncontrolled.

Laura - PLEASE take your daughter back to the doctor and ask them to change from Adderall to VYVANSE! It is very similar, and Shire has a FREE patient assistance program for it. While you wait for application to go through, go to this site's rx discount card and print it out. Then shop pharmacies for lowest generic price.

So after going over and over this I finally went to an rx discount card and it made my adderall XR 25mg to $81 for the generics. This is after about a two hour search. Thanks for all the help everyone!!!!!!

I just sent shire and email and this is the response I received- "Ever since Adderall XR went generic over 4 years ago there have been no coupons or vouchers available." I am going to fill my prescription up today and try using the discount card. I will let you know if and how much it helps!

I emailed them about trying to get temporary help for my son. He will ha ve insurance again starting April 1 but we have a month that he wont have any meds. Have not got an answer as of yet. Do they usually email you back or only answer you through regular mail?

Confirming the rxcard referenced above does work. Went to Walgreens and generic 20mg adder. Xr was around $45. Also emailed shire and got an email back the next morning asking for my mailing address. Hope this helps.

I was paying over $160 for 60 pills (20mg) I downloaded an app on my iPhone called "lowRx" and it took the price down to around $60, I am a total skeptic about things like this (especially when it is free) but I was so desperate to save money so I downloaded a few different apps and the one I mentioned and another one called "lowest med" you can save different amounts with each card depending on the perscription. For example; one of my meds is cheaper with lowest med and more expensive with lowRx but my adderall is cheaper with lowRx and more with lowest med. hope this helps someone, honestly I NEVER post on these type of things, but I hate how unfair the prices of medications are without insurance and I wish I had been told about this a long time ago. Happy savings, and if your phone isn't comparable with the apps; go to a local dr office and see if they have any free perscription discount cards. There are also many programs that you can enroll in online and they will send you a card in the mail or let you print it out.
