Actifed Banned

Updated

Hi all, I wanted to find out why Actifed (as a brand) got banned by the United and states and JNJ stopped producing it and came up with Sudafed. Is there a reason why? Is there a link to the legal suit that was filed against a JnJ. Any information about why JnJ stopped producing it would help. Thanks.

Yes I know what you mean. Canada too. But it isn't banned really they just make it difficult for the drug store to carry it. And most of them don't so you may as well say they are banned. The excuse is they can make illicit drugs from the pseudoephedrine in it. I can't see a person making drugs is going to paid the high price on these pills. I would think they get it in bulk. And if that was the case then why is there so much junk on the streets still? If anything they are making more street drugs then ever before. I only problem with this is they banned from helping people like myself with really bad allergies. Really this is the only type that works for me. It could be that they know it works and the other brands wouldn't be able to to sell their junk.

Or ooo it's not good for you... neither are all the other drug they got the doctors pushing on you. Only thing is this works and works great. I wish these people that want to dictate what I should be using would have one spring with my allergies and sinus headaches and see how they make out. I know you would see these on the market again. I would like to know where the drug dealers get theirs from :) maybe I should be buying it for them. psssst... hey... you know where I can get some Actifeds....

Irebel is on the right track.

One of the ingredients in Actifed was Pseudoephedrine [1], and due to regularly increasing rates of abuse, and large purchases used to manufacture illicit substances, its status was changed, and to gain better control of the supply, it was moved behind the pharmacy counter, so someone could only purchase a certain amount, plus they had to sign for it, and show identification when buying it.

Once this happened, it severely cut down on sales, and some manufacturers discontinued their products due to it no longer being financially feasible to continue manufacturing it.

The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, nervousness, irritability, and insomnia.

Ref: Pseudoephedrine Information

The new formulation [NDC 27854-119] contains Chlopheniramine and Phenylephrine (or Phenylephrine by itself), to avoid the law that requires products containing Pseudoephedrine to be kept behind the counter and sold in limited quantities. [2], [3]

Hope this helps!

Actifed is the best medication for alleviating chest congestion when taken with a pseudophed. It is sad that Pharma companies only care about profits. If JnJ cared about people they would not be selling harmful vaccines. I don't want to hear any excuses. I don't deserve to suffer and neither does anyone else.
