Accutane/isotretinoin And Fat

Updated

How much fat and what type is best when taken with isotretinoin? What about taking fish oil and flax supplements with the pill? Would that be adequate?

To my understanding, there aren't any drug interactions between Accutane and 'fat'. If there was, you wouldn't be able to eat much of anything except for fruit and veggies (which is great too!). Although if you are going to add more fat to your diet, it is generally recommended that it be "good fat", such as fish oils, flax seeds, hemp oil, avocados, and other unsaturated fats higher in omega-3's and 6's. In my opinion any of those would be more than adequate to supplement with on a daily basis (in order to help avoid cravings for bad fats).

Everyone's dietary needs are different though, so what works for me may be totally different for you. I personally prefer a low fat diet and try not to have more than 30grams of fat a day. Others are comfortable having double or triple that in a day. It's all up to how you feel with each passing meal. :)

Hope this advice helps!

Thank you for your input. I was more specifically referring to the fact that since isotretinoin is fat soluable, therefore better absorbed with a high fat meal, is there an amount or source of fat that is more advantageous than others. If I were to take Claravis with just a fish oil/flax seed supplement, is that an adequate amount of fat to benefit absorption?

From what I'm reading, for best absorption, it is supposed to be actual fatty foods, such as bacon and eggs, or other similar food items.

Learn more Accutane details here.

The recommendations they make are really quite unhealthy, 6 pieces of bacon with 4 eggs and etc.

If you don't normally eat like that, I'd suggest talking to your doctor or pharmacist to see what they recommend.

Does anyone else have more information on this?
