Zmax Side Effects

Took a dose 1/21/2011. Started getting hives 2/15/2011, and continue to get them weekly. From what I have seen on the internet, I would say I have angioedema. I am on a anti-histamine regimen, with poor results. Is it possible that the ZMAX is causing this?

Are you still taking the Zmax? It contains an extended release formulation of the antibiotic Azithromycin, it is used to treat infections.

It is specially formulated to continue working for 10 days and while a skin rash can be a side effect of antibiotics, it is very unlikely that it is what's causing it, so longer after you've taken it.

First and only dose 1/21/2011. Pfizer notes on there warnings/cautions that skin reactions were noted in some patients even without further azithromycin exposure. Currently undergoing blood test, and scheduled appt. with Allergist.

I took Zpak 5 day round, got hives 10 days after finish, thought I was bitten by a bug and was having an allergic reaction to that, got a steroid shot and started taking benedryl this helped minimally until next day when symptoms increased the following day my hands and lips swelled to nearly bursting... headed to urgent care and after a chat with dr and finally getting to the fact I had, had bronchitis and had been on zpak, she said that was what I am allergic to. I am now to stay away from all macrolides as I could have an anaphalatic reaction next time.
