Since taking Zanidip (with Lisipronil) I
have extremely dry skin, leg rashes and increasing muscle weakness. Does Zanidip deplete Potassium levels and should I take a Potassium supplement?

I was prescribed Zanidip 20mg.
Afer 24 days of use, an itch started on my feet, by two days the itch turned into rash, small pimple looklike covered my feet up to half my culfs, in 4 days, the same started on my arms. Dr stoped Zanidip presuming it is its side effect. why on earth should us be gueniee pigs for medecins, and we also pay for it, couple of Dr visits plus expensive drug that will be stoped.

Zanidip's active ingredient is Lercanidipine.

The most common side effects of Lercanidipine include:
Ankle swelling, dizziness, headache, faster heart beats, awareness of the beating of the heart, and transient episodic redness of the face and neck.

Very rare side effects include:
Allergic reaction, fainting, swelling of gums, sleepiness, increase in blood test values which show changes in the way the liver is working, fall in blood pressure which can cause dizziness, light-headedness or fainting, increase in the usual number of times one urinates, and chest pain.

Started taking Zanidip 4 weeks ago. My blood pressure had gone up even though I am on 20mg of Lisinopril, and the Doctor said a cocktail of drugs where usually needed to control high blood pressure. Have developed swelling around both ankles, and cant straighten my right arm without considerable pain, ankles and hips painfull as well, will have to go back to the doctors.

I was getting severe side-effects when taking amlodipine (swollen feet, rash on legs) so my doctor switched me to zanidip which was a great improvement. Last time I went to the pharmacy I bought generic lercanidipine instead of zanidip and now have the same bad side-effects. I thought generic drugs were meant to be exactly the same as the brand name drug but apparently not.

I have taken Zanidip 20mg for 18 months to reduce High Blood pressure. Shortly after commencing this drug I had severe itch on legs and arms which worsened at night , scratching till I bled often happened in my sleep - swollen feet and ankles - with Gout-like pain and swelling of toe joints.
After visiting a new Cardiologist it was suggested that Zanidip was the cause - I ceased Zanidip and now after 3 weeks the itch is abating - the swelling has gone totally.
I also suspect this drug of increasing the number of skin cancers on my lower legs which have been appearing in alarming numbers-necessitating surgery and skingraft., These incidences also appear to have lessened.
Thank you

I had very high blood pressure and was on Trandate and then Natrilix was added which caused my BP to fall but also caused dizziness. After afew trials with these drugs I took only Natrix and it keeps my BP very stable. May not work for everyone but suggest to your GP to maybe give it a try.

I have just started taking Zanidip 20 mg up from 10mg. Prior to the upgrade I had no problem getting an erection but now have trouble. No other change in life style so this could be the problem

Exactly the same happened to me when I got the generic pills (same as you) but when I switched back to zanidip problem disappeared. They all swear black and blue that they are exactly the same composition, but why the swollen ankles/feet in the cheaper generic but not in the brand name (zanidip) one? Some chemical is being added or left out?

I've been on BP meds for the past 15yrs, Istin 100mg for the first 10yrs then Coozar100mg at nite and Zanidip 20mg in the morning for the last 5yrs. It is common place for my BP to be up at 112/190+ on my regular weekly-monthly visits to my GP. Alcohol abuse for a time did not help matters but have reduced to to a social level. After recently reading side effects of both drugs reported by patients on the net which I have extremes of ie; constant tiredness physically and mentally> swelling and aching of joints> absolutely no stamina to the point of intense breathlessness and severe chest pain near fainting>regular itching and perfuse sweating after little strain>at times unable to concentrate, focus and remember recent events>wakening hourly when trying to sleep, 4hrs max/nite>daily tearful and emotional at the slightest thing>weight gain from 160lbs to 215, yet diet intake is minuscule to the point of not eating daily>scalp psoriasis and dermatitis; bleeding due to constant itching>no motivation, low libido an erectile disfunction> DEPRESSION.
As a result of these serious side effects of these drugs, not then knowing or relating them or my doctor to these conditions. I was hospitalised and referred to a physcritrist who prscribed Allegron 100mg nightly and I am still taking them. Now the serious side effects of these, as I also discovered recentely are similar to Zanidip and Coozar but even more intence, severe with several other deteriorating side effects accompany them. A DANGEROUS concoction which has left my life negative, pointless and of no quality or direction. Its a CATCH 22 situation as the doctor fail to lisen or corulate the circular medication; serious side effects of my situation. I am a 56 yr old male, divorsed with a good regular relatonship with my 2 adult children and grand son and live alone. I only leave the house out of necessity as this is the way the meds have left me. 15 yrs ago I was an active, working and socially out going person eventhough I had separated. I feel my only way forward is to cease using all the meds in the hope of gaining some sort of dignity and quality whatever the outcome. have tried on numerious occassions.
DESPERATE! HOPLESS! SITUTATION!.....

I have been constipated since taking Zanidip. Told the Dr. and he said to take an opening medican for this. I don't see why I should have to, as I was alright before.

I have had hypertension for 30 years, and been on every medication known to man practically so when my BP started to destabilise again I was put on Zanidip. My blood pressure went down okay but I had rapid pulse, aches, pains, lethargy as described, liver function abnormalities and I could not sleep properly due to the rapid heart rate. My pulse was up to 100. So I stopped Xanidip myself. But when my blood pressure went up again, I was advised to restart it with 2 other antihypertensives as well as medication to sleep. I did..despite everything.
Then out of the blue my doctor stopped Zanidip this week and replaced it with Veracaps (verapamil)..I went to extreme lengths to get him to tell me why, but all he would say was, I was not getting the expected results!
So now my BP is a bit higher, my pulse rate is down, Veracaps do that, but will my BP go up again? I don't know yet, too early to tell. And you get swollen ankles with this medication.
I am getting to the point of stopping the lot, three anti-hypertensives and a diuretic; I wont though. I am supposed to feel well they say, I don't, not at all.
Does anyone feel like a lab rat, I do. The drug companies are making a fortune.

I have been prescribed several medications for high blood pressure which have been replaced by others for various reasons. At the moment I am on 20mg of Lercanidipine plus 8mg of candestartan and Atorvastatin 10mg for high cholesterol. I have been on a low dose of candestartan for years and seem to tolerate it quite well however, since Lercanidipine and Atorvastatine have been added I have worrying symptoms. Acute tiredness, aching, weak muscles plus occasional swolen ankles. I also feel absolutely stuffed with drugs. Can anyone suggest a more tolerable drug the. Lercanidipine?

Generic brands have the potential to be deadly. Their base is different and is more often than not carciogenic. Be very careful.

I came across this page to look for why my blood pressure was going up even though I was taking mizart and zanidip, reading some of the side effects that people here listed I can say that I've had a majority of them! Started out doctors were worried about my blood pressure being 134 systolic/85 diastolic (high end of normal) then one day I had a 190/101 reading that landed me in the emergency room and from then on I've been stuck with blood pressure medications and an ever increasing blood pressure (147/90 to begin with). I started off with mizart and had a lot of the side effects they say were rare (can't remember what they are as my memory has become foggy) and when my blood pressure remained around 147/90 the doctor thought to put me on amlodipine but I had reactions to that too, so she changed it to twinster (I think that's how it's spelt). I had reactions to that too, so back to mizart and added zanidip. I've experienced headaches dizziness shortness of breath, rapid heart rate, blurry vision, all of which I've put down to my now high blood pressure, but some of the other symptoms I've had are: transient episodic redness of face and neck, going white as a sheet (possibly because of low pressure) fainting, sleepiness, broken sleep, having only 4 hours sleep a day or 14 hours sleep a day, increased urination, fall in blood pressure, lightheadedness, sudden short duration chest pain (coinciding with rapid heart rate), tiny blisters on my legs feet and arms (which doctors said was contact dermatitis) which would get increasingly itchy in the evenings to the point I was waking up to find I was sitting up in bed scratching my feet till they bled, joints of my fingers would swell and be painful, I am foggy, forgetful, can't focus, no energy, don't want to leave the house, non existent libido, no motivation, although already overweight I gained 35kg despite having no appetite eating only the equivalent daily calories of a bedridden person, often forgetting to eat, and the worst of all the pressure in my head and eyes would be so great that I thought I might have a stroke and my eyes were bugging out of my head (I fear of detached retinas) and had temperatures that were fever like.

I kept forgetting to take my medication often in the morning and on the days I forgot I felt fine and the worst symptoms would happen if I skipped more than 2 days medication before taking it again (skipped 3 days ended up in the ambulance because I crashed to the floor with low blood pressure before getting up and sitting down and became like jelly needing to be propped upright and a trip in the ambulance where my blood pressure was monitored at 170/118 and twice when the pressure was taken in the rig it had dropped to around 128/90 and 118/85 but the young guy was new and thought there was something wrong with the equipment). When I told the doctor that I had drop in pressure he said "That's not supposed to happen" then took my blood pressure at 150/90 and he said we only take the second blood pressure into account (I think due to the white coat factor people worried about seeing the doctor so their blood pressure goes up) and surprisingly for once my blood pressure acted right on cue, it had dropped to 128/90 and while he was remarking on how that was a good blood pressure I felt ill and began to get woozie and started falling out of the chair, as he was too preoccupied with the computer, I had to try to get his attention twice and told him to take it again while I was woozie and it had dropped to 119/86. He said "Oh!! Well that's in the normal range of a healthy adult" (um!! Hello morbidly obese unhealthy adult here!! Not a normal blood pressure for me) to combat my forgetting to take it in the morning he suggested I started taking my medication at night and that's when I noticed my blood pressure going up, low at 155/110 to highs of 176/118 (blood pressure normally goes up during the day and comes down at night, after the last trip to the er I bought a blood pressure monitor) and the events of crushing skull pressure flushed face fever and bugging out blood shot eyes became more frequent. I became scared of taking my medication so my mum suggested I drop one of my tablets, so I have stopped taking zanidip and all the worst side effects have stopped! Although my blood pressure is still going up after taking mizart but it has slowed down the wild fluctuations I'd have when I've not taken the medication for days, and now I've cut the medication in half my blood pressure is down to a more manageable 147/90 lowest to 155/110 highest yes still too high but I can now at least function like a normal person.

I know exactly how you feel I have decided to come off all blood pressure medication because I feel as if am carrying a great weight around with me and I have put on 4 stone in weight since being put on lercanidipine and ramipril I have put up with being prescribed blood pressure medication for over twenty years some of which I have had terrible reactions to. It is not good to just stop medication but what can you do if you are not listened to.
