i have recently been prescribed zanaflex. I was told it's a mix of xanax and flexirl. I was just wondering if anyone else has taken the drug and does food really effect it. ## Hi. I just had back surgery 10 days ago. Because of the length and sverity of my condition (a double herniaton of the L-5 disc) I have had severe muscle spasms all up and down both legs and in my back. It just so happens that I have just completed my certivicate in drug and alcohol rehab counseling., and am finishing up a course in PSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY. I've just started taking this drug, since I told my doctor that I can't handle FLEXERIL, which is NOT an anti-inflamitory or a muscle relaxer. Flexeril is a benzodiazapine - a sedative, which is why it is sometimes prescribed for muscle pain. There is NO ...

This med makes my ears ring and then cant hear.Dizzy feeling. I have to stay seated to avoid My husband said Im sayin things I never remember. ## Hello, Gigi! How are you? There is no 200mg dosage of Zanaflex. Are you sure that is the medication you are taking? It is only available in 2, 4, and 6mg dosages. It is a muscle relaxant and its typical side effects are listed by the FDA as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache and dry mouth. Can you double check the medication you are taking and post back? Thanks! ## Its 4 mg Zanaflex. I was also taken off klonopin and Oxycontin. This was replaced with butran 200mcg patch, zanaflex 4mg, celexa and lyrica. My dr of 7 years had me on oxycontin 30mg 3 times daily, Klonopin 1mg 2 times daily. This combo helped my spine injuries. Also PTS...

I have been prescribed Zanaflex for almost 2 years for muscle spasms after flexeril didn't work any longer. I also had early stages of RA for which i also take gabapentin, Xanax, and tramadol (I took myself off of Vicodin). Zanaflex has been a life saver for me. I take 8mg before bed and can sleep soundly without waking from painful spasms. The only downfalls are that I have become physically addicted, I cannot fall asleep without my zanaflex. Without it I will stay up for days, no fun! Also, it causes the most extreme drowsiness ever! Taking zanaflex during the day with four kids running around is not an option. ## HI, Mattison! Thanks for your informative post, I am sure others will gain benefit from what you've shared. As to being addicted, I am of the opinion that you're...

I take zanaflex 8mg 4 times a day. I was wondering if I could take an allergy relief medication with zanaflex? ## It depends on which allergy medication you wish to take, most of them may potentiate the sedative like side effects of the Zanaflex, which could result in more dizziness, drowsiness, and lethargy than usual. Can you please post back and clarify? If so, I'll be happy to provide more specific details for you!

WHAT DOES TIZANIDINE SHOW UP AS ON DRUG SCREEN ## Does zanaflex show up on a lab 12 panel drug test? ## Can Zanaflex show up on a drug urine test as a benzo? ## I see questions but not a single reply. What kind of forum is this? ## My friend has DC's case fighting custody of her daughter and had an old prescription for zanaflex. She was having bad leg spasms because she started a new job and started the spasms in her legs again. She is concerned she may fail a urine and/or hair follicle test because she took some thinking it wasn't a narcotic and wouldn't show in a drug test. I need accurate information. Can someone please help? She is a good mother and I want to help my friend, please and thank you.

I was just wondering if anyone out there has over-used zanaflex? I am ashamed to admit I did. I was just so desperate to sleep at night. One or two wasn't cutting it so I started going up to 6, 7, or 8 at I time. I would never ever recommend this for anyone. It was just my own desperation and stupidity. I have always had giant tolerances to everything. Anyway, this stuff would put me down hard, it was hard to get up and walk myself to the bathroom and the other thing was the vivid hallucinations, i have never experienced anything like it before. Everything I was seeing was so real it was scary and I would even see people and hold conversations with them. In the morning i would be completely fine. Thankfully i am in treatment for addiction now to various other substances. I just neve...

First off, I took the prescribed dose and it literally did nothing. I do suffer from muscle spasms and it didn't even help that. But the crazy thing is I'm on Valium and was asking my doctor to switch back to xanax since I was previously on that and the Valium just isn't working anymore. He then writes me for Zanaflex instead! I need a new doctor in the Phoenix area... I can't deal with this constant trial and error of meds paying out of pocket for crap medications when I know what works best for me. I've been dealing with this for over 10 years. I'm also on suboxone for pain management so it's hard to even find a dr who will write a benzo with that... but I suffer debilitating panic attacks and I have a 6 month old baby. I told him the Valium isn't worki...

How long does it take zanaflex to get completely out of your system? ## How long does it take for 1mg zanaflex to leave the system for UA? I might have one on Monday. ## @Terrar , Based on my research, zanaflex (tizanidine) may take anywhere from 3 to 5 days to get completely out of your system. This isn't counting your hair follicles though, which they say can take up to 90 days. I also read that even though tizanidine has a short half life of 2.5 hours, its metabolites have a significantly longer half life ranging from 20 to 40 hours; making a single dose last as long as 80 to 90 hours in your system. @Shelby (post #1): With regards to a drug panel, my understanding is that because this medication is not a controlled substance, it's likely that it wont even be checked for in a...

I've been on oxycontin 80s for yrs. A new pain mgmt doctor says I'm taking too much and has also refused to prescribe ativan 1mg 2 per day. I have been on a rollercoaster ride with meds being changed. I was given Zanaflex and Topamaze. Will these meds help me? Oxycontin dropped from 160mg 2xday, to 1 tab 3xday, no anxiety meds. Also changed Soma to Zanaflex. I didn't sleep much before this change, now not more than 2hrs a day. HELP!! A lot of yrs. of pain. I can't work anymore. I've raised a family, been a wife, raised Foster Children (My Children too). I love them all. I'm now a GrandMother that hasn't been there for her Grandbabies. My brother has liver disease and one doctor prescribed him flexeril and a different doctor prescribed him zanaflex. Is it safe to take both meds? It seems to me like he should be taking one or the other. ## You are correct, since they are both muscle relaxants, he should only be taking on or the other, depending on which works best for him. The FDA warns that these medications carry the risk of causing side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, and dry mouth. Was either doctor aware that one had already been prescribed for him? Is he on any other medications?

A friend of mine took this zanaflex saying it was the same as xanax, just with muscle relaxers in it. I personally don't have a clue so i figured i'd ask. ## No, they are not the same. Zanaflex contains the active ingredient Tizanidine, which is just a muscle relaxant. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, and dry mouth. Xanax, however, is a benzodiazepine, it contains the active ingredient Alprazolam. It carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, sedation, and irritability. Is there anything else I can help with?

I'm prescribed klonopin for dystonia. I missed my Dr. appointment, which I was supposed to get a refill on, so I was wondering if zanaflex would prevent me from seizing? I know that xanax & valium has. ## No, Zanaflex is a muscle relaxant, the FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, and dry mouth. Have you contacted your doctor? They may be able to phone something in for you, at least until you can get in for a new appointment. Are you on any other medications?

I took Zanaflex for about six months, as a muscle relaxant. I noticed that it helped with my chronic insomnia. So I tapered my "decades of use" Xanax, under the supervision of my doctor, as I increased the Zanaflex. All went great until one night. I had not stopped the Zanaflex. But I started hearing things, and seeing things (hallucinating), to the point that I was literally scared to death. Then I began vomiting and was sicker than I can remember being, even with a stomach virus. I called the pharmacist the next morning and described to her the previous night and asked if the continued vomiting that day was indicative of a terrible side effect of Zanaflex. She said that the literature printed out, and attached to the pharmaceutical when purchased, did not mention it; that the ...

dosing schedule of 4 mg. for chronic insomnia ## Hello, Kim! How are you? Zanaflex is a short active muscle relaxant, it can cause some drowsiness as a side effect, according to the FDA, but it is not useful for treating insomnia, due to its short duration of efficacy. Its other side effects are listed as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache and dry mouth. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I have been taking for years. No problem. I got a series of health issues in a row. I was in a lot of pain. I took way much. I never even thought I would be almost unbearable d.t s. Do you have anything that helps that is not addictive. Should I still take it lowering the dose? Or can u just deal with the agony.

My 11 year old accindentley took a 4 mg zanaflex she weighs. 111 pounds what should I do ## Did she experience any adverse effects? This is a muscle relaxant and the FDA warns that an overdose of it may cause shallow breathing, lowered heart rate, low blood pressure, extreme dizziness, and extreme drowsiness. Any time you worried about the health of a child, in such a situation, you should contact their doctor, poison control, or your nearest emergency services department.

I've been on muscle relaxers for about 7 years, due to a neck fracture injury ending in a surgut oval nonfusion. I have chaotic pain that my pain Doctor treats with 10/325 Hyrdroco/APAP. Limit of six per day. Some days I take the maximum some days I don't depending on my activities. He substitutes my hydrocodone done with Baclofen 10 mg. his prescription says take one to two tablets by mouth three times daily as needed for muscle spasms. I rarely ever take the maximum dose. We first started out with Flexeril that worked for a little while but I needed something more. I was having severe muscle spasm's that felt like my muscles in my shoulderswere drawing up into my ears. This caused excruciating headaches. So he put me on a stronger muscle relaxer back to the van and we talk...

I was taking zanaflex 3 times a day for only 5-7 days. Since stopping I have had anxiety and panic attacks. The dosage was 2mg each time. I've never had this feeling and it's a feeling I can't overcome. How long does withdraws last? ## I'm sorry about the problems you're having. However, this medication doesn't usually cause that, especially after such a low dose for such a short period of time. Its just a muscle relaxant, so it isn't habit forming and the FDA lists its typical side effects as including nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, headache and dry mouth. Are you on any other ...

4mg zanaflex same as 350 soma do they have same reaction ## Hello, Buddy! How are you? What it really comes down to is which one works best for you. Soma is the strongest muscle relaxant available, but it doesn't work for everyone that tries it. I had much better results with Zanaflex and Flexeril. The FDA lists the typical side effects of these medications as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache and dry mouth. Which one has your doctor prescribed?
