Xtampza Er Users Effectiveness (Page 3)

Updated

I need ppl who have tried the new Xtampza er med to tell me if it works the same as oxycontin? I need to switch so I wanted to know the strength of the new med in comparison.

Seems overall consensus is that this new drug is not effective, plus causes side effects - I.E., mostly headaches. For me it s also too weak to do much for my pain, the headache however I've yet to experience (thank god). Pain has been ruling my life for 17 years now, so without good relief I stay bed bound and my body is being destroyed even faster due to stress on my organs and bodily functions. My most recent problem being heart problems which are too serious to have an ineffective pain med. My dr also says to take it with fatty food, which is not good for a bad heart, however after trying that there doesn't seem to be any difference so I'm not gonna do that for better relief since I actually don't feel it helps enough to risk a bad diet. I just want relief so I can stay outta bed part of the day and have a break from this constant torture. When will the evil gov take pity upon us and stop playing dr with our real lives. I am so tired of the struggle to stay alive. I need relief, I need the powers to change these murderous regulations and give me relief again like I once had. They are literally killing, murdering us.

It's truly unfortunate that the future is bound to become much worse with legislation from Congress already in place under the guise of "doing something" by those that haven't any clue of the unseen and debilitating nature of what is always the go to excuse that it's all in one's head of those that are obviously lazy and dependent on entitlement programs. Our POTUS, AG, Speaker of the House, in their cushy jobs will never in this life grasp the concept of suffering; though are more than qualified to restrict access and fit everyone into a neat little box to stash away in a long forgotten corner under heaps of those earned benefits of Medicare, Social Security and the American Dream. This may be indirectly off topic, but in reality it is the basis of our increasing suffering in this day and age where knowledge succumbs to power. Good luck and best wishes to all. If you're like me, I am very reluctant to complain, but the rules are changing and rigged, so I too must change to survive, unfortunately.

At least you seem to have a positive attitude about trying to make it work. A lot of people on here are so negative. I've been on the Xtampza er for almost three months. My switch is just from rapid release Oxycodone 7.5 four times a day. My problem was that most days I only took three a day. With the Xtampza er I have gotten in an actual schedule. I'm getting the equivalent with Xtampza er that I got with the rapid release. I've never gotten my pain level down far enough for me to have any kind of acceptable life. Last time I saw my primary she said if I don't tell him it's not working the way I wish it would, there's no way for him to know. Honestly, I'm scared to death to ask that maybe he could up the dose with all of this bad stuff going on with narcs. I have an appt. Friday and I've decided to ask him. All he can do is say no. Anyway, back to you. You've been on it for a week which is longer than a lot of people. Do you know that you're supposed to take it with food (a clarification I'm going to ask Friday, how much, fatty or not, etc). Take Rx in a schedule-I take mine at 10 am and pm. Also, do you know that Xtampza er doesn't have acetaminophen in it. When I first started this drug I always took the acetaminophen with it (four times a day to compensate). When I saw my primary, she said I didn't have to take it. I could just use that for my break-thru. At three months, I'm still trying to make this new drug work. If I was you, at a week in, I would do the same. You seem to have a good attitude about the whole change. Maybe a few changes on how you actually take it or maybe up the dose would do it. Sorry so long but I so want things to work out for everyone and maybe we just need a little help on how this drug works. Work with your doctor. They want the best for you. Hope you'll check back here and let us know how you're doing good luck.

Just checking in again, been on this med months now with so little relief I doubt I would even have withdrawals if I quit it!! Been in bed, lttle time up in my wheelchair-but no one cares my life (as poorly able that it was) is now totally gone. I have tried with food, fatty food, small amount of food and without food. I have taken 2 of the 27mg at a time, then tried 3 at a time still no relief like I used to get with the Oxycontin. It is like there is blank powder in these capsules-I wonder what really is in these things to make them so useless-my dr. says the abuse deterrent is a waxy substance-so am guessin that must make them also relief deterrent too!

I have 5 herniated discs, most of my joints had several surgeries over the years. I just turned 62. I am still fairly athletic. But a few months back I was dismissed from my pain clinic due to a failed U/A. Although I got clearance from an addiction specialist and another psychiatrist they would not take me back. I am now looking for a pain clinic where they still prescribe oxycodone in ny or nj in 2017.

My prescription is for two pills a day (every twelve hours). 62 pills would cover you for the month if your Rx was the same. If you don't mind my asking, how many pills does your doctor prescribe?

Some ppl simply can't handle pain of any kind, always looking for something to cry about. I think the word is "hypochondriac," and all the crying i's typical snowflake behavior. I think they just want ppl to feel sorry for them, so they can achieve a higher victim status.
So before ant of the crybabies here start wandering, I have 4 ruptured discs in L-section of my back, 2 of which have completely disentegrated and don't shoe up on a CT scan. Also have 2 dics's in my neck that are bulging from 9 years of football. I have 2 broken stainless steel screws in my right leg, arthritis and neuropathy in both legs. Severe osteoarthritis in my lower back, as described by a licensed radiologist. I tooknow opana 30mg 3 times a day, with oxygen
10-325 4 for break through pain. I was switched to Embeda 60mg 2 times a day, because as of now opana will be pulled from the market, and you can Google that, I was also given morphine 15mg 3 times daily to takw with the morphine. Embeda and morphine IR are a joke, mild relief. But after anext alergic reaction to it I was pulled of morphine. I forced myself to only take Oxy 10-325 4 times daily for a month. Yes, it was hell for 7 days. But in return I lowered my tolerance, and was put on the xtampza 27mg about 4 days ago. And I'm having just about 75% of about what the opana gave me. The main thing is you should be optimistic about how and what you take. I watche'd so many people die, OD, and go to jail because they were addicted to fentanyl, oxycontin, oxycodone, etc,, I can't write laws, or implement them. So I do what I can, and I'm not gonna ruin someone else's day or life because I think I need 200mgs of opioids a day. This is the way it's gonna be from here on out. I don't like either but I'm not gonna cry about it. I told my pain clinic today, what you see on tv, and read about on the Internet about pain med's is NOT what goes on with me, or in my house. So don't confuse me with them. I've been going there for almost 5 years. And if they shut the down all the pain click Monday then I would learn to live without. Because I went from 2000, till 2012 withave no meds. I didn't like it, but I had to make money, and pay bills. I done commercial and residential ceramic tile, and hardwood floors. So nothing easy. All I see on the Internet is ppl so upset that they didn't get their way at the pain clinic. And that's the reason why things are like they are concerning pain meds. Suck it up, most of it is physchosamatic, maybe you should try tramnadol. But I will never let my frame of mind be so completely negative about my situation, it only makes the pain worse.

Two good things about this site. One is to discuss Xtampza er, what's worked with it, what hasn't, ideas about it that maybe we haven't thought of. The other is to have a place to vent without being judgmental of others' situations. None of us really know what we all go thru without walking in others' shoes. I truly hope that you are able to find what helps lessen your pain and you have the quality of life which you desire and certainly deserve. Take care.

i appreciate what i just read. i am sorry about your pain, I understand. i am young-ish in my 30's. my dr. cut me off of 5 controlled rx. 9 years I went there as a patient. i found another a pain dr but getting proper meds to live a functional life is ridiculous. i had to leave my medical job bc I was unable to function not to mention the pain. this is like modern day genocide.
good luck to you my friend.

I take mine out of the capsule. Then eat some extra sharp cheese and in about an hour, I can feel it kick in. Of course it doesn't last 12 hrs. More like 7-8, but it does seem to work after it's built up in your system for about a week. I take 2 of my 20's at a time. Which puts me at about 80 mg for 24 hrs. If I don't eat a high fat snack with it, I have noticed it doesn't work as well.

I've been on opiates for about 9 years now. I fully didn't expect the Xtampa ER to work. Fortunately so far it does.

Sorry I ment to put 18mg not 20mg. I don't want to falsely report anything to you. I was on 20 of oxy before the switch.

If you don't mind my asking. You say you take the Rx out of the capsule and eat some sharp cheese with it. The instructions that come with the Rx say to mix it with something like applesauce, yogurt, pudding if you have trouble swallowing capsule. Do you mix the Rx with something like that or just take it by itself (put it in your mouth and swallow). The instructions that come with the Rx never get specific-just say to take with food- same amount each time. Glad to know that what you do is working for you. Thanks

I cut of a little top piece and empty on my tounge. Now you are correct about the instructions. I've tried it with the capsule but it takes a good hour or two longer then if I just swallow the micro beads. It was a little trial and error, but now that it's built up in my system for 7 days it's a NOTICABLE difference.

Oh and after researching the micro beads Xtampza ER studies have shown it works the best with HIGH FAT foods. A few examples...

Avocados. The avocado is different from most other fruits. ...
Cheese. Cheese is incredibly nutritious. ...
Dark Chocolate. ...
Whole Eggs. ...
Fatty Fish. ...
Nuts. ...
Chia Seeds. ...
Extra Virgin Olive Oil.

Hope this help :)

Thanks for the details on how you take this Rx. Not sure I'm 'brave' enough to just put it straight in my tongue. I think I could mix the contents with something like the applesauce, yogurt or something like that and then follow it with one of the high fats you suggest. I've been on this for about 3 months. I eat a half of a deli sandwich (the Mayo being my 'high fat'). Sounds like that's not enough. I was taking Oxycodone four times a day but I seldom got the fourth pill I'm on so my pm switched me to the Xtampza er which made sure I got the 4 doses in. Some days are better than others. Can't ever pinpoint why. I know that stress can affect the whole pain thing but I can't do anything about that. Oh, one thing I do know about the Xtampza is that it doesn't have acetomenophen in it so I supplement with that. And coffee. I am 'convinced' that the caffeine helps. Who knows. If I think it works, at least it's not hurting anything. The caffeine helps jump start me anyway. Sorry that I ramble on. Last time I went to my pm he said just to make sure I have something on my stomach. Nothing about high fat. I see him this afternoon. I'll run this by him. Anyway, looks like I've got some experimenting to do using your info to guide me. I appreciate all of the info you have given me. Glad to hear that you seem to be doing well with this Rx. Hope I'm as successful as you. Thanks.

Re: Db (# 8) Expand Referenced Message

This is why I am trying to file a civil case against my Insurance Co. They are charging me $400 co pay for my OxyContin that I have been on for 10 years and are telling me to switch to Xtamza . This is unfair. I am going to fight this all the way.

I am being taken off of my Oxymorphone ER 40 mg four times a day for Xtampza ER 36mg. Due to DEA pressure. Every time they have taken away one drug for another in this manner it has never worked as good as the one before it. So I expect insurance issues first, sickening withdrawals that make me want to die second, and to be left on a pill that won't give me enough pain relief to wash my ass on a daily basis. Has anyone else done this drug to drug transfer and how did it go for you please?

Hello everyone. I had a spinal fusion and bone graph from my hip. 2 additional back surgeries. Due to a bad case of staff infection or mersa wich led to additional surgeries. I was prescribed 75mcg Fentanyl for pain and 5-325 Ox for break thru. After several years my pain management doc and I decided to switch to xtampza 36mg ER every 12 hrs. For me personally the transitiin was very tough until the right dosage was figured out but niw I can honestly say I like this medicatiin so much more than the fentanyl Patch. My relief is so much more ballanced and consistint. I have found that it is crucial that you eat fodd first then take the medication. I have found that eat first then take dosage . DO NOT take dosage then eat for what ever reason it seems less effective. Also I have found eating a sandwhich i.e. grilled cheese or just a regular deli sandwhich works well. I would like some feed back from others on what types of food they take theirs with that seems to work well for them. I have had back problem now for 17 years and have had to take medication for it for 12. So far I am happy with xtampza. Yes I think it could be better but it beats suffering in pain. Because of the medication I live what I would call somewhat of a regular life. I work a full time job. I am active. I can throw a football with my kids and do not have any side effects at the moment from the medication so I am calling it a WIN! I am in my late 30's and My doctor tells me that my condition will only get worse over time as I age and my spi e continues to deterioate. And I will not ever get any better than I am now. I have titaniam rods and screws in my back and I look like frankenstein LoL from all of the surgery scars. But I am alive and still kicking and I try to make the best of my life. I hope my post helped people with some of there questions. I would really like to hear some feedback from others about what foods they eat with the meds and I would greatly appreciate any feed back on your experience wih this medication.
Thanks.....

Re: Julie (# 58) Expand Referenced Message

I feel the same. I have been on OxyContin for 10 years with $25 co-pays. Last month my insurance says now the co-pay is $400 unless I switch to Xtampza bulls***. It's all about the pharmaceutical companies and $$$$.
