Xarelto 20 Mg's Once A Day, Possible Side Effects.

I have been taking Xarelto for almost five months now due to a DVT in my groin. Within less than a month of taking this medication medication I began to experience lower back and lower abdominal pain which has not subsided but worsened as I continued to take Xarelto. I bruise easily which I know is a side effect of a blood thinner. I am also experiencing problems with the balls of my feet which I have never had before.. It feels like a callus but appears to be internal and not external. I have soaked my feet and used a pumice on them and although I get some relief it occurs again within a few days or so. I have never in my life had a problem with my feet or walking any distance. My primary doctor says there is no connection between the medication and my symptoms. However, it is interesting to me that I had none of the above problems prior to taking this medication. I am at present taking PT for my back and I guess I will have to see a foot doctor to determine what is causing the foot problem. I think this medication also thins out your skin and could be one of the problems with my feet. Can anyone confirm that the problems I am having may be due to taking the Xarelto? I am a healthy individual and the only meds I take besides the Xarelto at present is a blood pressure daily and Lipitor one twice a week.

Hello, Dottie! How are you? I am so sorry that you're so miserable.

That pain is definitely listed among the possibly side effects of Xarelto by the FDA and many other patients have reported it, as well. Some were so miserable they had to stop taking it, or switch to a different medication.

And yes, it has also been known to cause some dermatologic symptoms, so while it would be best to have your feet checked out, there is a chance that is also due to this medication.

How long have you been taking the Lipitor? It may also cause joint pain and headaches.

Which blood pressure medication are you on?

I have been taking lisinopril 20 mg tab - one in morning and one in evening along with one Amlodipine 5 mg tab in evening for approx 4 years now. I take Lipitor 40 mg twice weekly. I don't experience headaches from either meds but I do experience vertigo symptoms and lightheadedness on occasion. The vertigo started about 5 years ago during a bout with bronchitis. So is difficult to pinpoint the actual cause of those symptoms. However, I had a fainting spell about 3 yrs ago walking to my car after having my annual mammogram and bone density done. I don't think my passing out had anything to do the either evaluation. I read that lightheadedness and vertigo were side effects of the blood pressure meds but my Dr has kept me on them. I also do not think my present symptoms of lower back or abdominal pain is related to the other meds, due to how and when they surfaced was after I started on Xarelto.

Thank u so much for responding to my post in regard to Xralto side effects. Just knowing that others have experienced the same symptoms is comforting to me. Not that I amgkad they hsve them, but that I am not loony toons. My Dr said that it was doubtful it was the Xrelato and this was not only a good med but so much easier to tske as one does not hsve to be monitored.
