Why No Man Should Ever Take Spironolactone Or Aldactone: Both Stop Your Body From Processing Testosterone

Updated

Many men still take spironolactone aka Aldactone without a clue that it can virtually undue your sexuality. Spironolactone will slow or stop beard, arm, leg, chest and leg hair growth. It can cause your genitals to shrink. It can make your personality meek and obliging. it can rob you of initiative and male drive, sexual and non-sexual. It can steal away your ability to become sexually stimulated, robbing you entirely of your male sex drive. It can cause gynecomastia, a condition in which males develop female-like breasts.

This is not nonsense. All of the above happened to me. I had finally been discharged from the hospital after a heart attack and severe complications which put me in the ICU for 18 days with heart failure, kidney failure, emergency quintuple coronary bypass surgery, cardiogenic shock, you name it.

When discharged i was prescribed spironolactone. my heart surgeon had insisted that every hair on my body apart from the hair on my head be shaved prior to surgery. EVERY hair. So when i got home I was startled to find that I looked a bit like an 11 year-old boy, hairwise. it wasn't until about 6 months had passed that I realized that neither my underarm hair, my public hair or any of my hair had grown back. I wasn't interested in sex and at 54 years old I wasn't getting erections.

i chalked it up to the terrible trauma my body went through. And while my hair grew longer it was finer than it had been. For five years i let this problem go unaddressed. In truth, i expected that i would die within 6-18 months so it did not seem to make much difference.

Then one day something caught my eye on a Google search page that wasn't related to my search. it said that spironolactone was 'an anti-androgen' medication. It occurred to me that androgen was essentially testosterone. When i searched further I was flabbergasted, as there were by far more discussions about spironolactone for use by women attempting to eliminate moustaches, excess hairiness etc.

More stunning still was the fact that spironolactone isw in general use by males who do not have heart problems at all. What they do have is a desire to become women physically. And while most persons seeking sex changes eventually obtain surgery changing them from men to women, many will try out using spironolactone! this is because spironolactone is considered by many transgender women (formerly men) to be an agent which causes CHEMICAL CASTRATION.

I will leave it you to do your own further research. Check 'anti-androgen' OR testosterone OR castration along with spironolactone on Google and read for yourself. This stuff turned me into a pussycat, and within two months after I stopped I began getting partial erections again and was able to feel sexual stimulated.

If you are a man wishing to be more like a woman i recommend spironolactone. If you are a man who does not want to be more woman than man stay away from spironolactone like it's arsenic.

There is an essentially equivalent drug in the same family called eplerenone, which has been tested under somewhat different circumstances but is thought to provide some of the same protection from worsening heart failure that spironolactone does.

I am sorry to read of what you went through.

What dose of the Spironolactone were you taking?

It can cause these effects, but not to everyone that takes it, especially at lower doses.

I'm female and have been taking it in varying doses since August of 2010, when I had congestive heart failure and when I read the possible side effects, I actually found myself wishing it would slow or stop some hair growth, but it never did, even when I was taking 100mgs a day.

It really just depends on how your body reacts to it.

Are you using the Eplerenone now and is it working better for you?

spironolactone was prescribed for my 85 y/o mom's leg edema/CHF. within a week or two, she began to 'fade away'. She became very lethargic, dopey and confused. She fell because she 'missed' her chair, and was hospitalized for observation. I mentioned the possible correlation to the doc, who thought very little of the idea that spironolactone could be the cause. He didn't take her off it. She continued to drift away, and a week or two after her hospitalization I researched the Internet for an answer to her confusion. Guess what~ it WAS the spironolactone. I feel I may be the only person in the world that thinks this drug should be off the market. Perhaps just closely monitored with the elderly. Let's face it.....mental confusion is associated with aging, so the symptom might go un-noticed by a common observer.

Wow, that sucks man.

I actually started using it for my gender dysphoria at 17. I was self medding then, and I started out using Spironolactone as an anti androgen from a reference. For about a week though, I was panicking because 95% of the more notable medical sites don't even mention it's use or effectiveness as an anti androgen. It's really hard to notice T-Blocking if you're not looking out for it either in any drug, which makes it worse.

It's definitely a better drug in my experience, then other anti androgens. I took Cyproterone Acetate from 18-19, and it robbed me of nearly all of my energy. Not to mention it would cause nausea for about an hour after consumption. I'm a little over a month away from 21, and I've been taking it ever since... And yes, it's very effective.

This would be a huge loss for MTF individuals like myself, but sorry to hear about your mom, maybe this drug just wasn't for her!

Thank u so much for the testimony that you've given to us..from now on..i feel safer taking spironolactone...it is more proven and tested that spironolactone is a t-blocker.....and it is not too risky taking it coz it has lots of medical benefits....as a transwomen is it very skeptical for us especially taking medications for our transition....so thanks a lot ...i am using it right now....

I stopped as soon as I could after I found out that's why my sec drive was suffering because of it . I just started taking amiloride for cirrhosis fluid retention , and the hair on my head wouldn't grow like before and almost no public hair , very thin now . Also have small breasts now too . I was never told this when prescribed , I feel damaged !

I am very sorry to hear about your mother and this drug..

That being said i have several female relatives that take this medication and have never had a problem. I personally have just started taking this medication myself(trans) and i hope it stays on the market for many years to come

This is a hilarious lie. Spiro doesn't stop hair growth whatsoever. It can thin body hair (arms, chest and back), but that's about it. I know some trans girls who WISH what you're saying was true. As for facial hair, once it starts growing it's always going to. No hormone fluctuation will change that. I don't know why you're lying about such things. But it's pretty disgusting.

Re: Toni (# 8) Expand Referenced Message

Just because you don't know something, doesn't mean it's not true. I don't mind ignorance when it's acknowledged, but when it's combined with aggression and accusations, it's really abhorrent. You're an ass.

Re: Toni (# 8) Expand Referenced Message

Yes, it does stop hair growth in certain areas. You are clearly not in possession of any facts. It does not, like you said, do anything for beards. Estrogen thins the hair out, but my chest hair does not grow back anymore thanks to Spiro. Not going to need it anymore after Friday, however. Orchiectomy time!

I was on spironolactone and had been for about a year. I have cirrhosis caused by an autoimmune disease. My breasts grow in spurts. I went from maybe an A-cup size to around a small C-cup. My penis went from over 6 inches erect to 2.5 inches. Limp. It's inverted to the point my foreskin barely sticks out. My testis are half the size they were. I climax 2-3 times a day without erection and often while im out and walking around. I have changed meds recently and it seems to make the breast growth worse and penis shrinkage more. I have very feminine mood swings and feelings. It's hard adjusting from being a manly man to total fem hormonally. My wife wants nothing to do with me sexually and I cant blame her for it.

Re: Bobby (# 17) Expand Referenced Message

Bobby, I’m with you on nearly every problem you mentioned. What a horrible drug, I stopped it a month ago and I’m hoping something returns of what my sex life used to be? I have a very loving understanding wife which I cherish, had I been told of the side effects I would never have agreed to taking this poison! My problem was heart but nothing too serious and now I live with this nightmare, I joke with my wife that if they took an inch off my penis I’d have a scar on my arse... One can only hope things reverse in time without it? Here’s hoping.

Ellie you are right. It should be off the market. I had it for 11 months after a heart attack and I now have shrunken genital and boobs bigger than my wife.
