Who Will Be Taking Over And Making Sandoz Clonazepam Brand?

Updated

I have a question. I am told when I contacted Sandoz that they are no longer making Clonazepam of any kind. That means a lot of brands will no longer be available. I've been taking Sandoz Clonazepam 0.5 mg (yellow tablet) 3 times a day for 10 years now and am trying to find another type that is just the same or just as good when my pharmacy runs out of mine. Any thoughts on what is something just as good or close to it? Or did anyone find a pharmacy that has a ton of this type? Thank you kindly for any and all help.

Hello Veg21,

According to a FDA Sandoz Inc. has made a business decision to permanently discontinue clonazepam tablets, marketed by Sandoz and Northstar Rx LLC. They have not released any information on if they are going to be selling their marketing rights to another company.

Here is a list of some other clonazepam brands. There are many other bands available as well, this is a short compiled list of some brands that I have seen other members of the forum discuss previously.

Accord Healthcare Inc.
Mylan Pharmaceuticals Inc.
Qualitest Pharmaceuticals
Teva Pharmaceuticals USA, Inc.
Aphena Pharma Solutions - Tennessee, LLC
Caraco Pharmaceutical Laboratories, Ltd.
Eon Labs, Inc.
Solco Healthcare LLC
Par Pharmaceutical, Inc.
Sun Pharmaceutical Industries, Inc.
Aidarex Pharmaceuticals LLC
Watson Laboratories, Inc.

I hope that one of these ends up working for you as well as the Sandoz brand has. Let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.

Re: Kevin (# 1) Expand Referenced Message

I was taking the Sandoz brand for years and there was a dramatic change in the way that they worked for me. I tried other brands and ended up very ill and in the emergency room several times. Mylan was working for a while and now they are also going to discontinue it . Not everyone reacts the same to the different brands but the closes to the Sandoz brand but no where near the original is the Accord brand. At least for me. I'm not sure how it will work for you. God Bless I understand what you are going through.

Re: Sarah (# 3) Expand Referenced Message

Sarah, you are correct, Accord is the closest to Sandoz. I'm taking it now it seems to be close, but it doesn't last as long. I'm hoping after awhile someone will pick it up someday, until then I'm sticking with it.

@Kevin (# 1), You posted a lot of places towards Clonazepam, many of those are no longer making it for whatever reason. I'm not being rude, I'm pointing out a fact, we are down to a few places making the drug now.

The drug list you posted:

-Accord Healthcare Inc.
-Mylan Pharmaceuticals Inc. (no longer making said drug)
-Qualitest Pharmaceuticals (was bought out by another company, they make a drug, it's not sold in all 50 states, mine is one of those states)
-Teva Pharmaceuticals USA, Inc. (they no longer make their brand, they make Actavis and that one is garbage)

I'm not sure about the rest cause they are not sold in my state. We have two brands only sold here and possibly a third, it's not very good is what I was told.

-Aphena Pharma Solutions - Tennessee, LLC
-Caraco Pharmaceutical Laboratories, Ltd.
-Eon Labs, Inc.
-Solco Healthcare LLC
-Par Pharmaceutical, Inc.
-Sun Pharmaceutical Industries, Inc.
-Aidarex Pharmaceuticals LLC
-Watson Laboratories, Inc.

Re: Veg21 (# 4) Expand Referenced Message

Excellent post! I appreciate the effort and diligence you put into compiling that list. I admit I do not personally take the medication and I only did the market research on the primary brand discussed.

The list I gave was simply one that the other users on this website have mentioned recently, I shouldn't have put Teva up there since I know they were bought out and go by Actavis but aside from that it would have taken me entirely too long to do the research on each company to see if they still manufacture the drug or not. More or less I was just trying to provide some of the names so that users who come here in the future have something to reference when they start doing their own research on what band they want to take next.

I apologize for giving a list that is not fully comprehensive but I do hope you understand the reasoning.

Re: Kevin (# 1) Expand Referenced Message

I know they are no longer making the drug. They stopped in July along with other companies who stopped making it as well. Luckily thanks to my doctor who prescribes it for me, he's found a place that has been able to sell me some for the next 6 months (if they don't sell it out to others). After that I'll have to find another product that works just as well that doesn't make me loopy!

Re: Kevin (# 5) Expand Referenced Message

I'm sorry I didn't see this post until today, if my other post seems rude that was by no means my intent. With this shortage it's flustering for us who do take the Medication. Lucky my Doctor found a place that makes my old brand so I'm in the clear for (cross's fingers) 10 months. Maybe by then someone will pick up making my brand or something better will come along
Thank you for trying to help out.

Re: Kevin (# 1) Expand Referenced Message

I take Accord with no problems, however, I have no idea what brand I originally started with 10 years ago and I don’t think any of the new brands are as effective as they used to be. Stay away from Solco for sure. It’s made in China and horrible in a BP med I got. In case you are not aware, most of the generics are now made in China and India and are crap!! Research who makes those brands and find one that is still manufactured in the U.S. or you will regret it. You can have your doctor specify a certain brand, but first find out if your pharmacy carries it or can order it. You may have to try another pharmacy that can.

I asked for and got Teva brand in April, but don’t like them. Did they stop making them since then?

Re: Veg21 (# 7) Expand Referenced Message

No worries at all! I don't always have the time to do a thorough investigation of everything, more or less I am just trying to give a springboard for people who are looking for answers. I do understand how frustrating it is for people in the current prescription medication climate, especially with clonazepam. Your post was informative and helpful, no need to feel bad about it.

Re: Cathy (# 9) Expand Referenced Message

I've never taken it, know others who do, they have said TEVA has changed, they stopped making for their product for a bit then they started up again. Rather it's good or not I'm not sure. I had tried Actavis brand which they bought out, that is horrible. When I contacted them about their product and how horrible it was I got nowhere with them. Did notice they aren't an American product, Petah Tikva. Israel.

Good luck
