Where To Donate Lovenox
(Newest replies first)

Updated

After searching quite a bit, I finally found an organization that will take leftover Lovenox for donation: World Medical Relief (worldmedicalrelief.org). I wanted to post this here because it was so difficult finding a place to donate these, and hopefully this will help other people donate (rather than destroy) their left-over Lovenox.

I have 7 sealed syringes..I know it isn't a lot, but I don't mind mailing them to you. My husband broke his leg and got the ok to stop taking the Enoxaparin 30 mg. Let me know if you want them.

That was great info... We have lots of these shots, sent to hubby by the VA an unable to return them, especially since he is on Eliquis now... So thank you, we are on Hawaii an found no place here that would accept them... On the mainland we had no issue, but here, its different... So I sent the World health an email an hope to send our two big boxs of these them... Maggi SGT, USAF DAV

Hi Bob. We have several boxes because my husband was put on the pull form of the meds. The expiry dates are all 06 to 09 2019.

Re: Bob (# 3) Expand Referenced Message

Hi, I have quite a bit of enoxaparin sodium injection (80mg/0.8 ml) unopened and left over. It expires in November 2019. I am looking for a way to donate it because I no longer need it.

Hey Roderick, may I ask what state you live in? I'm thinking there may be a state or federally sponsored program for such an exchange. At the very least, maybe the manufacturer can take it back and offer it as part of their patient assistance? Or maybe you can get some of your original prescription costs back? I hate to think of anything like that going to waste. On the other hand, I assume that it's a good thing that you no longer need it? If so, wishing you the best!

I have about 13 boxes of Enoxaparin 120mg (130) I would like to donate to patients in need. CVS said they'd destroy them even though the exp. Dates are June of 2019. Look it up, and CVS wants $400 a box (that is about $5200.00 total) if someone doesn't have insurance.

I cannot afford any Lovenox for my deep vein thrombosis. Any help finding patient assistance would be appreciated. Thank you. {edited for privacy}.

Wisconsin now has a donation program: dhs.wisconsin.gov/guide/cancer-drugrepo.htm. I am thrilled to know that they can take my enoxaparin. You need to call one of the participating facilities, to determine if your donation can be used. They will guide you to the procedures to follow, as well as expiration requirements.

Hi Corie,

Thank you so much for sharing this important information and resource here. Leftover medication that costs hundreds if not thousands of dollars are constantly in jeopardy of being washed down the toilet (causing environmental concerns), or otherwise being improperly disposed of due to a lack of knowledge and information provided by the pharmacists who dispense it; let alone finding a place like you have. It is my opinion that these medical donation organizations should be printed on every prescription label in accordance with the patient's pharmacy location. That way every patient will know what to do with leftover drugs without using an excuse to flush it down the drain or toss it in non-hazardous waste bins.
