Because of the long halflife of methadone I would wait atleast 4 days and drink plenty of water during that time before taking any suboxene. What happened to you is called Precipatated withdrawl. My dad had the same thing happen. Wait atleast 4 days and yes those will be 4 awful days but take L-tyrosine and plenty of hot baths and if you can get your hands on it take between 10 to 20 mg of valium or 2 to 4 mg of xanex during that time. and imodium for any diarrhea problems. After those 4 days maybe even 5 stop the valium use because of the problems possibly associated by mixing barbs or benzos and suboxene. I have had a long addiction to methadone and oxycontin and i used suboxene to detox and then a 30 day rehab program I suggest going to a place called the palm beach institute in west palm beach florida. They accept most insurances and are wonderful people who have helped me save my life. I am only 24 and I was addicted for 6 years until i went there. The doctors there detoxed me using subutex but I have tryed the outpatient suboxene thing like 5 times before that. Trust me only use suboxene for a max of 3 weeks and ween down properly under the direction of a suboxene certified doctor. Dont forget the importance of therapy and hopefully group meetings. Good luck to you its a terrible disease that we addicts have but we can control it. I will pray for you and I wish you all the luck in the world and I hope that was helpful

I have been on 60 mgs. of methadone for 7 years and now I want to get off, how does the suboxene work?

Dose down. If you can just drop a little each week. I did the rapid down dose and survived. If I was able to drop a couple mils per week instead of per day it would have been a cake walk. Methodone take longer to kick and its just easier to drop gradually.

yes, suboxone will work but you must detox some.It will be awful but the rewards are plentiful. Type in addiction documentary next to hbo.com on Search to find some incredible info on these subjects. I've been on Suboxone for 4 years and it is a miracle. I also attend AA which I have since 1995. The withdrawal is worth it. KLONOPIN will help you detox, and any doctor will be glad to help, provided you are serious. You will need to lay down and of course and suffer, but, you owe it to yourself. Suboxone will change your life IMMEDIATELY. Best of luck. Methadone is really a tough one, my heart goes out to you. Also make sure you find a doctor who will trust you and don't I SAY DON'T DO ANYTHING TO MESS IT UP. BECAUSE YOU WON'T GET ANY SECOND CHANCES WITH THIS DRUG. It is highly regulated and they don't play around with it. Withdraw one day at a time, one hour at a time. Get your life back my friend.

I di it but was off methadone 7 days and yes you have to go thru some withdrawal but it is worth it. However, you MUST not do this without a qualified doctor! He would have known you had to be completely off all narcotic and opiates for at least 4 days before starting suboxone!! Who told you 2 days?? Please get a doc who knows what he is doing!

I was abusing Methadone for about 5 years and decided to try Suboxone... The first time I hadn't used methadone for about 3 days and snorted two 8mg Sub's "which is completely NASTY!!!" but I had no problem with that and actually got a descent buzz from it. So, I started taking Suboxone regulary til I couldn't find any one day. I decided to get some Methadone instead... I took like 40mg and couldn't even tell I had taken them. There for a while I switched back and forth between Sub's and Done's for a few months and had no problem with getting sick or withdrawls... Then, out of the blue one day after I had taken Methadone the day before I took 1 Suboxone... within 15 minutes I was soo sick I couldn't even think! I was having muscle spasms, I could not sit still, nausea, and freezing and sweating at the same time. It was honestly the wort sickness I have ever had! It lasted about 2 hours and finally started to ease off. That being said, I would wait at least 3 days, if not 4 or 5, Before taking Suboxone after taking Methadone. You can take Methadone soon after taking Suboxone, but you will not feel hardly anything at all from it because of the Naloxone in Sub's. It is basically a "opiate blocker".

Hey there i hope that this helps but i was on 120 miligrams of methadone for a year, i did not want to take the time to wein down so i went into inpatiant and went from 120 to 0 in 14 days and then the 3rd day they gave me subutex and i felt so much better because methadone has a second half life so even tho it dont feel like its in your system so it still is so they will continut to give you drug tests until it is completly out of your system and then they will start you on your subutex it works wonders. If you want to do do that i recomemd sacred heart in memphis michigan, they have a awsome satfff and are very caring to the patiants and will take great care of you and you will leave there in 21 days feeling good. You MAY be a little uncomfortable but you will not want to kill your self and you know what i mean not literal for all the people who is reading this and dont know what drug addiction is like. Best of luck to you.

I have been on Methadone fro 3 years as a result of my leg being amputated. The Pain management clinic changed me from morphine to Methadone and now that I told them I want off of my 5 mgs 3 x a day, then 2 x a day, then once a day - they told me they didn't feel I would have ANY withdrawals symptoms. BS!

It has been over two weeks and my stomach is a mess, I'm losing a pound of weight a day, my ears will NOT stop ringing and no one seems to know what to do. I was give 2 - 5 mgs of Valium to help me get to sleep one night, after having been awake for over 36 hours straight!

The pain docs gave me this drug, now I want it out of my system. Isn't there alternatives to getting out of my body quicker? That insurance will cover? My understanding is that since it is an opiate, it stays attached to your brain receptors for a long time and is stored in fatty tissue. Confused, frustrated and want my brain back ... and my body.

How can doctors give this Rx for so long then set you free without keeping close tabs on you? Doesn't make any sense. I want my body to be 100% drug free. I want my body back. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I am not an addict or have never had any addicted traits .... and don't intend on starting now!

1st. Why don't you have a doctor to help you switch to Suboxone!!??
However, you must NEVER take Suboxone until you are at least 4 days completely off ALL other narcotics & opiates. Never! You must be in full withdrawal to make the switch. It is hard but if you do it this way within 30-45 minutes after you take it you will feel almost complete relief!! If you take Suboxone before you are at least 4 days off all other stuff you will not only get very sick but could die.
PLEASE call the Suboxone Help line at:
1-866-973-4373
Make sure you never take any narc/opiates once you are on the Suboxone or you will get even sicker than withdrawal!
Hope this helps
The BEST to you.
PS. Don't forget therapy!

Look People why do we all ask other addicts what to do to make the switch to Suboxone? Some info is helpful but a bunch of it is false and harmful info!!

Go to the source!! Suboxone has a help line and can set you totally straight on how to switch without causing more harm to yourself.
PLEASE call them directly and also read their information on line at: Suboxone.com or call:
1-866-973-4373

Please call and get the correct way to do it.

Also try hard to get a doctor to help you come off.

Your pharmacy, especially a smaller mom and pop one can give you the names of doctors in your area that deal with Suboxone.

It saved my life and for the 1st. time in 11 years I am finally off ALL narcotics/opiates!!! I took tons of methadone and oxycodine for years. I have been free for 5 months now.

I started by taking 2- 8mgs. films/strips a day. 1 in morning 1 at night. I am now down to 1/2 morning and 1/2 night. I should be completely off everything within the next 6 months!!! I can't wait! You don't feel anyhting except in the beginning you might sweat some but that also stops. The BEST!

If you are on methadone you gotta wait 72 hours until it's out of your system other wise if you take suboxon you'll put your, self through automatic withdrawal and it's worse then kicking from anything else

You have to be clean off of methadone for 72 hours before starting suboxone. Also you are not supposed to mix it with any benzodiazepines. It could kill you. I know some people that do mix it but they are playing russian rullette with their lifes... That's the information that I got from a methadone clinic not long ago from the Dr that runs the clinic... That's what is also in the pamphlet they give to you... I hope this helps... Please don't play around with these strong drugs... I don't want to hear of another person passed away because they were not informed correctly... If you have a methadone clinic in your area you can call them or go see them and they will give you all the correct answers... I hope you get well soon... I'm in your shoes right now but under different circumstances...

Wait 72 hours at least. Don't take any more if u start feeling like crap after taking the sub. What sense does that make? If u ask a dr they will try to send you to detox before they give u the suboxone

You must be in the beginning of withdrawals before you can take suboxon. otherwise you will go into a nasty full blown withdrawal.

?True story? Beginning in 2009 after running out of Methadone (which i'd been getting from ppl, never was prescribed) and it becoming harder and harder for me to get my hands on. I went about 3 or 4 days and was in a living hell!!! So I left work and went to a local Dr. that participated in the Suboxone program and after he observed my state of extreme withdrawals he told me I was a prime candidate for the program and immediately got me started (which is very expensive) That day, after filling out several pages of paperwork telling my life history, he wrote me a script for 1 Sub 8mg tablet and told me to go to the pharmacy and get it filled then comeyou mediately back to his office w/ it So I did and after coming back to his office, he explains to me how to put it under my tongue and I immediately felt euphoria (only way to explain it!) I was on top of the world!!! So after an hour or so he observed me again and I explained to him how much better I was feeling he writes me another prescription for a weeks worth (16-8mg tabs..2 per day.. 1 in morn.. 1 in eve.) And tells me I'm to report back to him in a week. I done all I was told. The sub's was working out great for me! After a week I went back and he started me on my monthly scripts which was 2-8mg tablets per day... 60 per month. As of today 8/24/2014 I've not touched or even had the urge to take anything other than the sub's since 2009. ?**BUT THERE'S A DOWNSIDE TO THE SUB'S THAT IVE BEEN ON FOR THE PAST 5 YEARS!!! YOU WILL BECOME HIGHLY ADDICTED TO THEM AND THEIR WITHDRAWALS ARE WAAAAAAAY WORSE THAN ANY OTHER I'VE EVER EXPERIENCED, recently the Dr. that had turned me into a highly addicted sub addict over the past 5 yrs dismissed from the from the program because they said my urine wasn't the correct temp or something to that affect.. (NOTICE: AFTER 5 YRS OF PASSING EVERY UA WHICH IS REQUIRED EA MO. WHILE ON SUB PROGRAM) although a couple of times random oddities would come up but was always cleared after it was sent off to the lab which they do each time, and even the nurses administering the UA's told me their cups were cheap and the temp strips on them was often messed up and displayed wrong temps and stuff quite often, I EVEN TOLD THESE I*****S, LOOK YOU CAN TAKE MY BLOOD, STAND IN THE RESTROOM WITH ME AND WATCH ME URINATE OR WHATEVER IT TOOK TO SATISFY THEIR CURIOSITY!!! BOTTOM LINE.. THEY WOULD NOT BUDGE!!! NO WAY, NO HOW, KICKED ME OUT OF THE PROGRAM, OFF SUBOXONE COLD TURKEY AFTER 5 STRAIGHT YEARS!!! TALK ABOUT SOME COLD HEARTED PIECES OF S***!!! so now I'm taking it one day at a time.. Finding a couple here and there on the street whatever.. Good days then VERY bad days!!! Its been a rough experience and where I live there's waiting lists at every other Dr office that prescribes Suboxone so its not like u can just go jump right into another program.. Plus I've heard that once 1 Dr. Kicks u out of the program, your name goes on a list and you can never be prescribed them legally again.. So being on Suboxone definitely has good points.. But also some VERY BAD ONES!!! STAY AWAY FROM COOPER FAMILY MEDICAL CENTER IN PASCAGOULA MISSISSIPPI AND KEVIN COOPER MD IS GOOD FOR NOTHING.

You have to get your dose down below 30 milligrams and be stable. I did it and didn't wait at all just went straight to Suboxone. The first day was pretty rough. You simply can't cheat the pure Narcotic antagonist effects of Naloxone. It's just that simple. So what you have to do is take enough Bupenorphine to combat those effects and get you back to normal. I ended up taking 24milligrams of Bupenorphine the 1st day. Simply put, the Naloxone replaces the opiate in your brains receptors almost immediately upon taking Suboxone, then the Bupenorphine in Suboxone replaces the Naloxone and you begin to come out of withdraw. Taking more Naloxone will not push the Bupenorphine out of your brains receptors so, the more you Suboxone you take on the 1st day the better you will feel. But please be careful. You don't want to take too much. I think they should prescribe a mild benzodiazepine for the first 3 days of treatment to smooth out the edges, but that's just me. I doubt you would find a doctor to think outside the box like that (not many anyway). I also think if you're on Methadone you should go to Subutex and not Suboxone. Subutex doesn't have the antagonist. Also, Suboxone isn't going to give you as much euphoria as other opiates will so don't expect too much from it. This is the trick behind Suboxone. Less euphoria in turn means less dysphoria which is why it's easier to come off of Bupenorphine than other opiates. I had about 18 pills the first time I used it and weened myself down over about a 3 week period until I was only taking 2mg at the end. My first day drug free I felt like I had never been an addict a day in my life. I felt great. If you use Suboxone as a maintenance drug then you will become addicted to it too eventually. It works very well in the short term but...to each his own. :) At any rate my friend I wish you the best and if I can help somehow just hit me back.

You have to wait until you are in complete withdrawal which is usually three days after your last dose...

I'm in EXACT same boat. 80mgs methadone for 8yrs. But 5mg for 20 hrs. Yeas, 1 day and half is way to soon for you to take subs my poor friend. Try some vicodine or other shorter lasting opiate to give you relief from Methadone. Methadone has what's called a half-life and half of it leaves you in 3-7days, than another half, and so on until it's gone. But after 70hrs you should be ok to take subs. If they make you detox sick again, try a handful of vicodin, it gets up over the Sub blockers and makes u feel better, and take subs about 18 hrs after u eat a vicodine. It's not an easy road, but a necessary one. You should have subutex, not suboxane. Subutex is Soboxane without the chemicals that makes methadone users sick. Drs dont know this yet not enough people comen off methadone for them to discover it.

If ur sister is misusing it then yes. She's gonna look that way.. I have been on it for ten years. Not one dirty urine. No triggers. And most of all NO CRAVINGS. Everybody is different. Stop judging it based on what u see. Do ur damn research on it before u start talking bad about it.

Everyone body is different.. I personally love the medicine but I'm going to get off it Bcus I have gained SOOOO much weight. Hope it helped

You should lower your dose down slowly to 30mg and be on that dose for 2 weeks before stopping for 1-3 days and switching to subs. I hope this helps anyone looking to switch. It is how my doc had me do it and it was fine; a little uncomfortable but no major detox.

If you have ever felt this...you would not want to keep it going....to have every muscle in your body jumping tightening and pain shooting thru you adding more DOES NOT FIX IT...IF YOU CAN TAPER DOWN...you can use a quarter of piece for 2 days..then half for 2 then three quarter for 3 days...now your ready for a whole one if you push it in you the pain receptors are gonna whoop in you...THIS IS A WARNING...I DON'T LIKE HEARING I WAS RIGHT... CAUSE I KNOW YOU JUST PUT YOUR SELF THRU HELL...IF YOU CAN GET A FEW PERKS TO TIDE YOU THRU THAT 72 HRS ALL THE BETTER FOR YOU....THE PERKS AND STRIP GET ALONE FAIRLY WELL....BUT REMEMBER...EVERYONE'S DIFFERENT.
