Due to acute, severe Osteoarthritic shoulder pain, an Emergency Room physician prescribed one, 10mg/21 tablet medrol dose pak, of Prednisone (Prednisone is written in big bold black letters, on the yellow box), to be taken over a six day period, in equally divided doses, one less tablet each day: 6-5-4-3-2-1), along with a sling and NO X-Rays. I filled the prescription on Tuesday and started taking it, but by around 6pm on Tuesday, my shoulder was even worse! Having heard the news that another local hospital was better, I went to the alternate and "that" hospital ER physician (an M.D. this time, as opposed to a P.A., on Monday), gave me a much better sling, a swathe, as well, a "complete* series of shoulder X-Rays, and yet another prescription for the "identical" box of Prednisone which the P.A. had given me, the first day. All said, the X-Rays, which the P.A. "refused" to take when I saw him, revealed NO breaks or dislocation, but a severe Calcium buildup on the tendons of the Rotator Cuff! Now on the very next day, after I finished the "first" Pak of Prednisone, I began the "second" (with both my doctor's and Pharmacist's approval); but my mother, who took the same medication for Asthma, years earlier (she's 85), told me that the Prednisone will remain in my system, for a full year! Can this be true? I only took the two Prednisone Paks (back to back), over a total of 12 days. It would be great if someone knew the correct answer! Thank you!

Hello, Glenn! How are you?

No, there is no medication that lasts that long in your body. Some drugs, such as narcotics, can be detected in a hair sample months after they've been taken, but that's it. They would not actually stay in your body.

Which were you taking, Medrol or Prednisone? They are not the same drug.

I'm so sorry to take so long to respond! Thank you so much for your response and information! I hate to say it, but my mother usually comes out with erroneous information! A year! What a joke! To answer your question, I took regular Prednisone in I think it was an off yellow and white box, but it said Prednisone right on it! I was given the exact same box the second week in a row. I just didn't want to take it after that because I was afraid for my bones! I'm legally disabled because of my back and I already take Methadone 60mg/day, in 10mg tablets. Two in the morning, afternoon and evening! As I'm sure you're aware of, the instructions in the box of Prednisone called for the user to take 6 tablets the first day and successively one less tablet each successive day thereafter, for six days, total! Thank you so much, again, for your help!

I have osteoarthritis and find that the prednisones works so well to keep away the pain I don't understand all of it why I can't have it or at least a low-dose to continue to live in know pain for the life. I am 66 years old and I rather live without the pain
