What Is Equivalent To 30 Mg Oxycontin?

Updated

Yesterday I picked up a 20 day supply of oxycontin 30 mg. It was a 20 day script. At 2 a day my px was for 60. I was HORRIFIED when the pharmacist billed me for 325.00, including my insurance discount. They claimed there is not a generic oxycontin. Oxycodone 30 mg was $15 for 60...so needless to say I was shocked!!! Is there an equivalent slow release to replace 30 mg of oxycontin? There has got to be something. I got into a bit of a habit with taking too many 30 oxycodone, which is why I was put on a slow release. Any advice out there? The pharmaceutical companies are gouging us beyond belief, and I've got a medical condition due to an accident where I need these pills, at least for another 2 months or so. The $325.00 price has me in a state of high anxiety however. Is hydromorphine extended release and also, is it cheaper? Thanks for your help!!!!!!!!

That is correct, there is no generic for Oxycontin, the time released formulation of Oxycodone.

If you are looking for another option that could help with pain and would still be time released, then you may want to speak to your doctor about using MS Contin, it is a time released formulation of Morphine and is available as a generic. The equivalent dose of it would be 45mgs.

It is also a narcotic, so the side effects would be similar and may include: nausea, drowsiness, dizziness and dry mouth.

I would talk with your DR. About opana/oxymorphone. It is a double acting time release pain reliever. It has two different narcotic compounds and it is very strong. A 15mg opana is equivalent to a 40mg oxycontin or 30 mg ms contin(morphine). Good luck.

I have been on Oxycontin AND Oxycodone for my severe, chronic pain for several years. I HAVE come off of them BOTH, under Dr's orders, in a slow, step down method. YES, there were MILD side effects in coming off, but I just didn't like taking so much medication. I WILL note that I am nearly 60 yrs old and have NEVER been drunk in my life, nor have I EVER abused drugs. I have ALWAYS followed Drs orders EXACTLY, so it was much easier for me to come off of these medications. I have tried other pain relievers, but so far, the opiods are the best at relieving the type of pain that I have. Most people say that they would be knocked out or high if they took as many and at the levels I have taken these medications. But because I AM in serious pain, I NEVER feel high and only get sleepy after several days of very little sleep. So unless you are a former addict or alcoholic (or current one) and if you follow your Drs orders EXACTLY, you should have very little problem coming off of these medications.

Sit rep for everyone... innovation/aetna insurance...oxycontin 30mg extended release. My wife has had 2 cages put in her neck and needs a cage for herniated disc in s1 vertebrae. I need ankle fusion ventral hernia surgery and have 11 compressed discs from c1 to s1. we have to take oxycontin 20 for me and oxycontin 30 mg for her.last year we had innovation silver 10 dollar copay insurance which covered all meds including name brand. example oxycontin was 45 dollars for 1 month supply. I received a letter OCT 7 2015 stating plan would roll over I verified this 2 am on DEC 15th. The next appointment we had no insurance at all. We spent about 40 plus hours getting the insurance adjusted and had to take an inferior plan. Service advocate Tamara Cordova and pharmacy rep Marshall adjusted policy JAN 19th 2016 to include a 1 year override on all preferred and generic meds. However there is no generic for oxycontin 30mg extended release, there is for 10,20,40 and 60 mg, come to find out through a friend at Purdue University that the most prescribed is the 30 mg hence no generic so it's all about the money!!! Since getting insurance adjusted Innovation has taken the adjustments off and oxycontin and oxycodone cost 560.00! A total of 40 plus hours have been spent on the phone with Innovation and we are at it again as a rep named Atlanta??? stated that our OCT roll over letter is a legal binding document YAAAAAY!!! So no they have to pull one out of their hat and my boxing gloves are on.We feel for you out there, living in pain is one thing, having to take this pain crap is another. The doctor's first rule is DO NO HARM, perhaps the Federal government should legally apply this rule to the drug manufacturer and the insurance companies..don't give up people. Fight back together. We can beat these ****ers. Thanks for reading.

I noticed one comment about about you trying opana. Please don't try that drug, if you do. Please, please do so with caution. I had a very bad reaction to opana. So please if you try it. Be very cautious !

I as well am on oxycontin 30's twice a day for long acting as well as oxycodone short acting, I have a couple other non-narcotics that def help with my permanent back issues. I as well have a problem with price, but have u tried using a prescription discount card or contacting the manufacturer or just do a web search for discounts? Also, I've seen a lot of times if u mail-order your prescription (even if it's the same store chain as your usual pharmacy) mail-ordering is cheaper! With me, sometimes I have a hard w/d time esp if I have to wait a longer time to receive them because even tho I've not over-used them, with the ridiculous restrictions they have now that don't have exceptions for the chronic pain regimen, its a seriously hard battle to fight & my pain Dr has gone to writing on each script that it has to last these certain amount of days, but also saying I cannot fill until the date after I run out, so I go from running out that evening & unable to get them until the pharmacy opens in the morning! I've even tried going to the 24/7 pharmacy to get them earlier, but, at least here in Nebraska..... in the city I live in, they ALL assume & treat u like an addict! So rude & disrespectful.....live in my 24/7 pain & 3 UNSUCCESSFUL BACK SURGERIES shoes & then talk to me about pain meds! Anyway, hopefully that helps u! Let me know if u have any other questions, I'm really good at finding things on the internet for discounts!!! GOOD LUCK!

You can get a discount card that is downloadable directly from the manufacturer of xtampza er. Call 1-888-884-2655. That is the customer service number for Collegial (manufacturer). They will walk you through the process of downloading the discount card. The card gives you your first 30 day supply FOR FREE!!! After that, around $35-45 a month with the card. That's all the info I have. The card works for me and does not require authorization like other drug manufacturers require to get you on a sellable contact list for annoying telemarketers. Good Luck! xtampzaer.com

There actually is a generic for OxyContin which was just released this summer. It's a little cheaper than the original and works about as well. Ask your pharmacist if he can order it for you and check the savings.

First, your math is in error. 60 pills twice a day IS a 30 day supply. 2x30=60.

You can get a discount card directly from the manufacturer (Purdue) website or from your physician. It is usable once a month from March to March of each year. You just show it to your pharmacist either each month or have them record the number to your account so it will automatically be applied before you pay.

Re: charshe (# 3) Expand Referenced Message

I took 15 mg ms contin and it didn’t touch my pain. Switched to 10 mg oxycodone and it makes me feel wasted.
I would ask the pharmacist though.
