What Causes My Neuropathy?

Hi. I have been suffering from chronic pain for over 4 years. It all started with right knee pain and weakness. I was diagnosed with a bakers cyst and went to PT. About a year later I had more pain on the right side running from my back down to the right foot. My back pinches, ankle constantly burns, my knee is still weak with shooting pains with overuse, my foot now has begun to swell on the bottom and hurts to walk, my hip and butt muscle are always tender to the touch, and overall my right leg hurts to walk and move and burns when I sit to relax. I was told I have some start of spinal stenosis, but not enough yet to cause my symptoms. I also tested with some nerve damage from my knee to my ankle. What could be causing this and what can I do? I also had an MRI of my brain that showed white spots. Should I be retested for MS and Lyme? Could that cause the damage and pain?

What medications are you currently taking? Can you be more specific about the white spots from the MRI?

These symptoms could be indicative of MS, but I am not a doctor and cannot give a definitive diagnosis.

Have you tried Gabapentin, or Pregabalin? They are both anticonvulsants that are used to treat seizures, certain types of nerve pain, and some mood disorders.

The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, mood swings, and weight changes.

I’ve had the same symptoms, it may be worth your time to get an ultra sound of your arteries. Turned out that my pain which was the same as yours was an artery blockage of 99%! Artery blockage needs a stent.

I've been suffering from back pain and currently take Pregabalin & Duloxetine with no real results to speak of. Can anyone please recommend an effective medicine?

Hi, I have bilaterai sciatica, which is caused, in my case, by spinal discs touching the spinal cord, as well as stenosis in one of the gaps. I was taking gabapentin, but my pain specialist switched me to pregabalin. I also have fentanyl patches. None of these have any real effect. I have not found anything that works.

Talk with a Orthopedic Spine Specialist. If your the discs and the spaces that allow the spinal nerve root to pass thru are compromised there are some easy procedures that allow for relief.

Sounds like a pinched spinal nerve in your lower back.

Thank you! Yeah I have recently been doing a lot of research and found that blockage can cause my kind of pain. I also have aortic stenosis so Im not sure if that could be a factor with how much blood flow or lack there of I get to my leg.

Unfortunately, an operation is out of the question, as, when it was tried 2 years ago, my heart did not like it, and promptly stopped. The surgeon knew it was a risk, as I have had 4 MI in the past (3 since the 4xCABG). I can get no-one to look at an operation. I now have symptoms of another disc problem, this time in my neck. All these have been seem on MRI scans.
