Hi Sal,
The dosing instructions for this medication state the following:
"Dexilant (Dexlansoprazole) comes as a delayed-release (long-acting) capsule to take by mouth. It is usually taken once a day. Dexlansoprazole may be taken with or without food, but it may provide more relief from after-meal symptoms if it is taken before a meal. Take dexlansoprazole at around the same time every day."
It does not indicate a specific time of day to take the medication, so that decision is going to be up to you at your own convenience. If it's something that effects you the point of not being able to function at a normal level, then it may be best to take it at night or in the evening hours when you may be in the comfort of your own home.

I suffer from severe GERD and I take Dexilant twice a day. I was told by my doctor when I was just taking it once a day was first thing in the morning one hour before you eat your first meal. It's suppose to be the best PPI on the market. I'm going to be having surgery on my stomach to fix it to improve my GERD symptoms. I hope this medicine improve your symptoms. I still have to chew Tums like candy which in turn give me tons on kidney stones.

Think about having surgery. I had a fundification that made the opening smaller in my esophagus to stop the acid from coming up. 6 years later I still have the same problem. It only made it difficult or impossible to eat certain foods. Also I have difficulty swallowing and keeping down certain foods. Be sure you understand exactly what your limitations will be so you are fully informed.

I posted when I was taking aciphex for my reflux but my body got use to the aciphex ando it stopped working. I have been on dexilant 60 MG for 2 months and it has given me relief from reflux and I find taking it in the morning works best for me. I try to take it around the same time it works best. Also sleeping with my head elevated helps.

I have been on dexilant for 7 years now. Have recently been hospitalized with Acute Pancreatitis. They say not related but I still wonder. Is it a bad idea to stay on dexilant indefinitely. I also wonder sometimes if it is still working. What would be my alternative if I decide to take something else.

I personally take it after diner since my burn happen usually when I'm sleeping. I think it is fair to say be aware when you need it then try to prevent it by taking the medication few hours before.
