What Is The Best Generic Version Of Wellbutrin Xl - Watson Or Anchen? (Page 58)

Updated

My doctor will not prescribe generic Wellbutrin XL but my insurance will no longer pay for brand name drugs. I will have to pay about $7000 per yer for what I am taking now (3 of the 150mg Wellbutrin XL brand name per day). I am reading that the problem with the generics is the time release mechanism and not the drug itself and that some are better than others. Anybody have experience with the generics made by Watson and /or Anchen?

Can anyone that is using the discount card tell me if there is a $ max amount of discount per year? Also, if the card says when the program will expire?

UP to $200 savings per 30 month supply... Not sure when it expires. Call: 1-855-330-1963, which is the number on the card to activate the card.

The card expires in 2018 and is good for 12 refills. There is no limit in terms of savings, just in terms of use - 12 refills. The expiration on the card is 12/31/2016 but Valeant extended the program through 2017 without reissuing new cards. The pharmacy never questioned the expiration date. They just ran the numbers on the card.

My husband changed jobs which changed insurance. After a mistake by my doctors office I was denied name brand Wellbutrin XL 150. I was able to appeal the original refusal to fill my script with name brand Wellbutrin.. I managed to find old pharmacy receipts that showed I had tried the generic but was switched back in 18 days after my mood crashed severely. The appeal went through. I went to the wellbutrinxl webpage and got a card which I just used and it took my copay from $250 to $25. I got the notion to look for a coupon from this discussion group. Thank you to all who posted that there is a coupon out there with great savings. One caveat, you can not be on any federal program for medication. Only works with commercial insurance.

No Maximum of savings that I can tell. My card finally came in the mail on Wednesday and I filled it yesterday. I take 450 mg so its 2 prescriptions. 1 for 150mgs and 1 for 300mg. It cost me $200 to fill both. The total savings was $2600. The original price would have been $1400 per rx. (I filled at Walgreens)

The maximum cost to you is $100 per 30 rx. Regardless of how much you would normally have to pay. I have BCBSIL insurance that does not cover the name brand.

The card works. But remember, you have to call to get it. The online card will only save you $200. The card in the mail can save as much as $2600 (or at least that was my savings)

I called the 1-855-330-1963 number, but it is only a coupon for $$ OFF whatever price your insurance makes you pay, which in my case is $1400.

How do I get the card that will get me 3 months for $300?

How do you get this card? I called the activation # someone posted and was told that the online coupon is the only one available.

IT's not post 1104. That is for the card that will only cover $200. Its post 1126. Call the number and you will be able to get the card via mail. The online coupon card does not work.

It works for anyone as long as they don't have government insurance. I.e. Medicare.

It took me about a week to get the card then I went straight to walgreens

I just called the 1-877-431-3578 and she said the coupon is only for people with commercial insurance. So I guess I'm out of luck since I'm uninsured?

This whole thing about "...except for those with government insurance" is absolutely discrimination! I called Valeant numerous times and NO ONE could explain this. Why would people on Medicare be excluded, when they KNOW Medicare and all if the drug supplements will NOT cover the brand name.

I am fortunate thst I have FINALLY found a generic that works for me, but I know there are many who are not that lucky. I wish someone would consult a lawyer about this, except for the possibility that it could end up taking the coupon for others.

I have said this before....it is age discrimination.

That's all.

It's not the drug companies that are prohibiting those on Medicare from obtaining the coupons. It's the government that is doing this. The government makes it illegal for drug companies to provide coupons to anyone on Medicare Part D. If the drug companies provide coupons to people on Medicare Part D, the drug company is committing a criminal act per government regulations.

I would recommend lying and say you have commercial insurance. They don't ask for your insurance information on the phone. Then once you get the card take it to your pharmacy. I'm guessing they will fill it without a problem.
