What Is The Best Generic Of Lamictal? (Page 10)
(Newest replies first)

Updated

I've been taking the generic for Lamictal for about five years. Recently I've been feeling different at about the beginning of the year. I use to take the white ones but now I am taking a generic by Taro. What is the best generic for this drug? I never really payed any attention until I started getting this crazy migraines. If anyone has any insights it would be much appreciated.

Re: Cassie (# 34) Expand Referenced Message

I just got off the phone with Teva and they are NOW saying end of February ship date. He said in March your pharmacy will have it! That’s total bs. He wouldn’t tell me why the drug's backordered. No information at all.

Re: Cassie (# 34) Expand Referenced Message

I’ve been in contact with the US Public Health, about shortage of Teva Lamotrigine. I also reported Cipla Lamotrigine last year that it made me sick to the FDA. Hyun Son is the person to contact at US Public Health. He works in the drug shortage area. He contacted Teva, but still does not have any information from them. Please contact him and Express your frustration with Teva shortage. I really need this resolved ASAP and I’m doing all I can think of.

Re: fonzi (# 33) Expand Referenced Message

Awesome! Hopefully this backorder situation for Teva Lamotrigine is history - I'm going to start making calls next week to Walgreens about availability - maybe if we all call, they will get the ball rolling on actually getting it to the warehouses and store shelves again. Thanks for the update!

I spoke to teva and they said it arrived, but my walgreens said they could not get it yetDoes any one know if cipla would be the same as teva, since they have the same inactive ingredients?

I’m going to call the FDA again. I called them when Cipla made me sick. They are suppose t have generic drugs that are compatible to brand. This is bs

Re: Cassie (# 27) Expand Referenced Message

I called my insurance company and told them the other generics made me sick. They are considering doing a tier exception for brand name lamictal. It’s a hassle but worth it. They already faxed documents to my dr this week, hopefully I can get answer soon.

Re: Connie (# 26) Expand Referenced Message

Just an update - I just spoke with Teva again - they are still showing Feb 9th as when it will be shipping - hopefully this time it will actually be available on their estimated date. He said that once it ships, it will typically be available within a couple of days to pharmacies. Fingers crossed!

Re: Neller (# 7) Expand Referenced Message

I have found that Sams Club will order Teva generic Lamotrigine for me. Cipla and Unichem don’t work at all.

Re: Connie (# 26) Expand Referenced Message

I have also been calling Teva almost weekly for about 6 weeks - they initially told me end of December, and every time I call they keep bumping the date a bit later...so, I'm not holding my breath. In calling around, it seems all anyone carries is Cipla and Zydus. :(

Re: Cassie (# 21) Expand Referenced Message

I called Teva and they told me a shipment is scheduled for Feb 10. I hope it comes out soon. I can’t find any Taro, only Cipla and that makes me sick.

with all the problems with the teva company will they continue to make lamotrigine?

Re: Connie (# 12) Expand Referenced Message

I'm just curious as to where this information comes from. I have been told +/- 5% by a pharmacist. That seems bad enough but a 20% variance would be killing people with many of the meds out there

I've used Teva for five years and never had any side effects. My pharmacy ran out and gave me Zydus, which left me with a metallic taste in my mouth all day. After a week of this, I was able to secure Teva again and switched back. No more metallic taste. Odd.

Re: Snell (# 4) Expand Referenced Message

I absolutely agree. Teva is the best generic for lamictal. Cipla made me very sick

Walgreens cannot special order it - they say just not available - I'm wondering if it has to do with Teva pharmaceuticals laying off 14,000 employees. I ended up finding Taro brand at one of my Walgreens - even if I do okay on it, not sure they can get Taro next month. All of the local pharmacies I called either have Cipla or Zydus. Hope not going to have to switch brands every month!

Re: Cassie (# 18) Expand Referenced Message

I sure do. Cipla was terrible for me, I normally take Teva. It was after a month of Cipla that I really felt sick.

Re: Cassie (# 18) Expand Referenced Message

Ask if they will special order it. I did that at rite aid a few years ago, and now at Kaiser Permanente.

Have taken Teva generic lamotrigine for many years - have always gotten it at Walgreens. Surprise - today went to pick it up, and Walgreens will no longer be able to get the Teva brand. They are now carrying Cipla. Anyone have any experience with the Cipla lamotrigine?

I was taking Lamotrigine peach diamond shape by teva for a few years. Then (2009?) I was given pills from another mfg - I don’t remember name of - white circle. I started having seizure activity within just a couple of days. Went back to the teva & didn’t have any more problems. Now my pharmacy special orders lamotrigine teva brand. I’m hoping they don’t ever change their formula.
