The SA stands for sustained action, which means it's a time released formulation, rather than a regular release, so it helps maintain better blood pressure control.

Is there anything else I can help with?

I was recently put on Diltiazem 120 SA, 11 days ago..I was on Lisinopril for about 4 yrs. as well as lorazepam...My heart rate was elevated..So the Dr did the change. My question is, Does it take the new drug time to work? I checked my numbers after my 3 mi walk today, and I was 143 82 w 108 Heart rate. It was like this yesterday, 145 81 88 HR than 5 hrs later it was 134 78 87HR...I have also had to go careful with my Lorazepam since I started this drug..I have .5 tablets that I take one and one half or up to 2 of these 3 times a day..But since the diltiazem I use i and a little piece, maybe 1/4 because it really makes me sleepy. I know better than to stop this drug..So I Have probably 2 things going on..The pharmacist today, said, oh , no the diltiazem should work right away. And No spikes. That I should tell my Dr. I do have a recheck appt in 3 weeks..I hate to jump the gun, and have her increase, if it just needs more time to work..Also, is ranitidine OK to take with this med? I have arth and stenosis and a little scoliosis in my neck, Hence the headaches, and the excedrin, which really hasn't helped with my BP..But, I am doing everything in my power to help. Walk, eat right, watch sodium, big time, because husband has 2 stents...Use icy hot patches on my neck..etc etc..Also have an appt with Therapy for my neck on Friday...Any good thoughts coming my way would be appreciated...Yrs ago, they had me on beta blockers and a different Dr kept trying different things..It is no fun.. I just want to find the right one and go from there. Thanks!!!!!
