Dilaudid is a narcotic pain reliever that contains the active ingredient Hydromorphone.

The name brand 8mg Dilaudid tablet is white, it is shaped like a triangle, with rounded corners, it has a number 8 on on side and on the opposite side it has a logo of two triangles, with rounded corners that are separated by a score line.

There are two others, that are also considered name brands, but they are manufactured by subsidiary companies, the pills are both white and shaped the same as the one I described above, however one has the marking PP (one p is upside down) on the scored side, with an 8 on the other and the other tablet has aa on the scored side and an 8 on the other.

Wall-greens (I'm spelling Wall-greens incorrectly on purpose because it's telling me I can't post due to word verification?) is giving me Purdue Pharmaceuticals 4mg Dilaudid as the brand name, which I pay the brand co-pay of $50 for. Under the name "Dilaudid" on the prescription bottle it says "generic for Dilaudid" as well". I'm really confused here. I was always under the impression that Abbott owned the rights to the brand name "Dilaudid". The Purdue Dilaudid works fine, it's a small round yellow pill with a 4 on one side & a P on the other, but I sure as hell don't want to be paying $35 extra/mth for my Rx if all I'm really getting is another generic form of hydromorphone hydrochloride. Is Purdue authorized to follow the FDA's BS 20% generic rule, yet still distribute it as brand? If so, that really pisses me the hell off! I used to get Mallinckrodt 4mg & 8mg generic hydromorphone & it was HORRIBLE! This was what made me pay the extra $35 in the 1st place. I've never had the Abbott Dilaudid & if that is better quality & works more effectively than Purdue's & I'm paying the same price I'll raise hell with Wall-greens & my insurance company bx for allowing fake brand to be sold to me for brand price. You don't even want to know how much it is without insurance & I'm on Cobra extension, which runs out after Feb if I don't find a new job, a way to get another extension on my Cobra plan for a few more months, or get my dad to start paying me salary instead of an hourly wage at his business & get me placed under his insurance. Oddly enough it's more expensive if I'm put under my dad's company plan than the Cobra plan I'm on now from my other job, even though it's the exact same health insurance company...& a reputable one at that, IL Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO.

The ones I have been getting are a round white tablet with LCI 1355 with the score line on the same side. The relief I am getting is not the same. It makes me more drowsy than functioning even though the pain has eased. Have chronic pancreatitis.
