Re: Philip (# 40) Expand Referenced Message

I totally agree and I had lead poisoning years ago from working in a Dental office with no gloves or masks. That is really scary as I am older now. I had to get Chelation treatment to offset it-but I am sure I still have some. I hope that is not the issue. We need to find out. If it is the chemicals used to fertilize as in Brown rice-we are in trouble. Thank you for your feedback and the info you got. I think the media TV people need to get involved.

Re: Nona (# 41) Expand Referenced Message

I agree, and consumers are entitled to this information, because it may be related to their safety. Those who also agree with us can consider doing the following:

Send an email to contact@konsyl.com with cc gmurray@konsyl.com with the simple text: “Can you either (a) let me know what exactly is the quality defect that led to Konsyl suspending product shipments as of 5/31/7, or (b) explicitly state that you refuse to provide this information to your customers. Please respond. Thank you”

So that a record of the question exists, it is important to use email rather than their online form, or calling over the phone. In the past, they have always answered me promptly, but once I started asking them to tell me what the “quality defect” was, they have been giving me the silent treatment.

Re: Konsyl Pharmaceuticals Inc (# 43) Expand Referenced Message

So, can you please let all of us concerned customers know what was the precise nature of the "quality defect" that led to the suspension of your products? In particular, was it related to the presence of any toxic substance in excessive quantities?

Re: Nona (# 9) Expand Referenced Message

I too suffer from IBS. Senna Prompt is the only thing that worked for me too. I am going through hell and back. Konsyl totally lied to me when I called on several occasions. Now I am in agony and can't get into see a gastro doc for a week. This could have been avoided if they told me the truth. I would have gone to the doctor before I ran out of the product. Shame on them!!!

Update: CVS customer care told me that they now totally discontinued online distribution of their product that mimics Konsyl Original Formula (called “CVS Health Natural Fiber Supplement”). They refused to answer any other questions about a relation to Konsyl’s quality defect. In fact, I now see that Konsyl had referred to it as “critical quality defect”.

All this suggests that there is a particular psyllium husk supplier (who was the provider for Konsyl, CVS, and probably several other products), whose source has a critical quality defect, probably excessive quantities of a toxic substance. If this is true, then stock of such psyllium products purchased, e.g., through Amazon, and perhaps still available at drugstores, may be unsafe, and consumers may have already been adversely affected.

Konsyl now announced that their Original Formula is “coming soon” with a “New Look!” (Who cares about the look). Apparently, they will now be using a new psyllium husk supplier and it took them six months to reorganize. But the issue is not their future product. The issue is that their *previous* products may be unsafe and still consumed by their customers.

Obviously, all companies which may have something to do with this are concerned about being involved in potential litigation, which is why they refuse to answer questions. But consumers are entitled to know whether or not it is safe to use their older products and whether they should be evaluated for lead poisoning or any other particular substance.

Konsyl should reveal who their previous psyllium husk supplier was and what the critical quality defect was. A person who answered the phone at Konsyl customer service had told me that these questions should be addressed to Ms. Kim Vaccari at kvaccari@konsyl.com cc contact@konsyl.com. This, at least, leaves a record that the question was asked, regardless of the fact that she will probably not reply.

Re: Philip (# 44) Expand Referenced Message

I am using MetaMusill -I cannot find the one without sugar but it says Gluten free. I do find I have to use twice as much(don't care) but am concerned about the lead content in the Konsyl. They will not return pharmacy calls either or give them a run around. They should be sited if there is any danger to the public and they are not telling them.

My husband, due to the fact that we could not get Konsyl here in north Texas for some months now began using Viva Naturals Organic Psyllium Husk Powder (I buy it through Amazon, $16.00, 24Oz bag). He had been using Konsyl for 10+ years. He noticed over the last year that he had to take the pills as well as his regular dose of powder. I talked him into using the Organic Psyllium Husk 2 months ago and he likes it much better. He doesn't need to use as much as he was using of the Konsyl. I use it in my protein shakes and vegetable shakes. It says it's gluten free on the packaging. I don't have that intolerance so I don't pay too much attention to that. My dad is a diabetic and uses this himself, a tsp full a day, and he is 82. He has no problem with it raising his blood sugar levels. I hope this helps someone that has been missing Konsyl like my husband was. {affiliate link added}

Re: Kathy (# 48) Expand Referenced Message

Thank you for the Post. I am Prediabetic and Gluten Intolerant. But will give that a try. Really concerned that Konsyl issue has not gone more public. Many people on down the road could be very sick. Many good post on here. Needs to be reported to Media!!!

Looked on the FDA site (fda.gov/Safety/Recalls/EnforcementReports/ucm310739.htm) and found that product was recalled (Pending Recall for May 7, 2014 Enforcement Report) due to "Label error on Declared Strength. Active Ingredient strength is incorrect." I sure hope this is temporary. I usually buy two 15.9 oz containers at a time. Certain sites currently have this product and are using current scarcity to charge Black Market prices of up to $138 for a 15.9 oz container! I agree with others here, that other products pale by comparison (And/or have unneeded additives). I have been using Konsyl daily for 10 years, and believe this is the main contributing factor for my last year's successful colonoscopy (65 years old, one small polyp removed; benign).

Re: Smooth N Clean (# 50) Expand Referenced Message

I just used the Meta Mucil which is now Gluten free and no sugar. Worked great. I used a tablespoon. Not going to use the Konsyl anymore. I do not think we are getting the real story.

Re: John (# 8) Expand Referenced Message

Every time I contact the manufacturer they give me an estimated date they will be back again but for three months now, they keep pushing it back. I can’t find anything near as good as this product. They have sent an email showing off their new look but I’m to the point where I’ll believe it when I see it.

I was incorrect on MetaMusil being Gluten free. It is not. It is sugar free. Sorry Folks.

Re: Jojo (# 52) Expand Referenced Message

Yes, and they give the silent treatment to any questions about the “critical quality defect” of their previous product. The only reasonable conclusion from this is that that defect is very serious, probably a health hazard, and that this has been kept intentionally secret. Therefore, regardless of whether they will resume production, consumers should be warned to avoid using any still available products in drugstores, Amazon, etc. Same for the CVS product that mimics Konsyl original, which has also been discontinued, apparently for the same reason.

Re: Philip (# 54) Expand Referenced Message

I agree on any of the products still being suspect. Do not think we have gotten the real story. Now wondering about Meta Musil? Even though still on the market?

Re: Ken (# 57) Expand Referenced Message

Is this your opinion or is this a fact? If so I am not surprised . I am in the Dental field and we have had recalls on items that no one would suspect.

Do you know what foreign matter???

Re: Nona (# 19) Expand Referenced Message

And here we are at the end of Dec and still not able to buy the product. I reluctantly moved on to another (Viva) brand. Not happy. Does anyone know if this product is gone for good?
