Walmart Pharmacist Abusing Power
UpdatedMy doc electronically sent a script of hydrocodone to Wal-Mart 17days ago saying take 1 every 6hrs FOR 20 DAYS.Gave me 80pills which is only enough for 19days..nbd. He sent a new script to Wal-Mart today but increased amount to cover 30 days. Pharmacist REFUSES TO FILL until the 19th again sayin I have to wait 30 days for script even though previous script stated on bottle 20day supply & instructions & amount only amount to 19days. Says insurance won't cover until 30days. I called other pharmacies& all agreed insurance will cover now Or even yesterday. Wal-Mart pharmacist was so rude.refused to explain why I have to go 12days without my meds when doc says I need em.Refused to give me her name or a supervisor & HUNG UP ON ME! I don't know this woman.it's Friday night so I'm screwed for the weekend at least.does anyone know how I could handle this.she's the pharmacist all weekend and there and script sent electronically so can't just go somewhere else.she said she's calling my doc to say I harassed her.I just want an explanation & my script.pain is unbearable& waiting on surgery.

80 at 4 pills a day should be enough for 20 days.
However, the issue here might be the way the prescription is written. If your doctor wrote it as PRN, which means to be taken as needed, the pharmacist might have expected that you wouldn't need 4 pills a day, every day, so they assume it should have lasted longer.
But, to clarify, in most cases, they should allow a refill on the 21st day, if your doctor has authorized it.
And prescriptions, even unfilled, can be transferred, you can consult another pharmacist and have them request it from Wal-Mart, so you can fill it elsewhere. Given the circumstances, I would say it is most likely best not to try to get a copy from Wal-Mart yourself, let a new pharmacy request it for you. I've had to have some transferred, when my doctor's office sent them to the wrong pharmacy and never had a problem. There are no guarantees any given pharmacy will do so, but there is no harm in asking, you might find a pharmacist willing to help.
When my husband had surgery a few weeks ago, I found out our regular pharmacy couldn't fill his Percocet prescription, so they filled the others, then transferred it to a different pharmacy that could fill it.
The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, constipation, and headache.
I'm not a legal authority and don't know what all was said between you and the pharmacist, I am just going by what I've learned over the years, and my personal experience, so I freely admit that I could be wrong.
How are you doing? Has anything changed?
