Wildly Inconsistent Release?

Updated

As you're most likely aware, this "new" OxyContin "OP" formula/mfg'ing technique has been rife with problems & "issues" since its introduction. On this site and this topic, comments and threads abound and nationwide, countless chronic pain patients have been suffering as a result of the ill-conceived and poorly executed, politically-motivated decision to alter the original OxyContin tablets.

However, the purpose of this particular thread is NOT for me to vent my frustrations and anger. Rather, it's to inquire about a new, peculiar "symptom" I've noticed recently.

For the last few days, I've noticed that I'm experiencing the "high" that I felt when I first started taking OxyContin, several years ago - and, as I recall, this has happened for the last few months; BUT, only when I'm approaching the end of a current prescription.

The "high" comes on about an hour (or so) after taking my prescribed dosage (20mg - 3X, daily) and lasts a couple hours and is followed only a couple hours later by the queasiness, anxiety and teary-eyed withdraw symptoms which we long-time pain patients know all too well.

I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing similar - and I'd like to express a hypothesis.

I've gone over this in my mind and I think the new, "tamper-resistant" coating may be responsible. Could it be that this coating naturally degrades over a period of a few weeks - allowing the medication to be released all at once (as though an extended-release tablet were an really INSTANT release)? I tell you . . . as I type this, my head is tingling, my mouth is dry, my eyes are "jumping" and my thoughts are disjointed . . . . I'm high as a kite AND I DON'T LIKE IT ONE BIT!!!!

Believe me: I grew out of the desire to feel even REMOTELY like this, not long after high school/college! Today, all I want is relief from the damn pain - pain brought on by years of hard work and injury! To me, the buzz is intense and if it were to come on while I was operating machinery, driving or riding my motorcycle . . . God knows what could happen! As I alluded above, the buzz comes on quite suddenly and unexpectedly; making it quite dangerous, I feel.

Again . . . is anyone else experiencing the same thing or similar? If so, what do YOU think is the cause - and is Perdue (or whatever their name is) aware of this?

Thanks.

It would also seem I'm writing uber-long posts that no one wants to reply to! Now THAT'S peculiar!

Hi..what i am finding with the new formula is they are inconsistant from month to month. One month they work well, the next not at all. However my last refill felt very strong. Within 30 minutes i would feel high. 2 hours later i would feel a 'flooding' sensation as well. My first thought was oh my gosh they are releasing all at once. In fact last week after taking 40mg. i felt sudden severe weakness and dizziness and my blood pressure went skyhigh. I spent 2 days in the hospital with very high blood pressure. They thought i had a heart attack but after myriad tests they don't know what it was.My gut is something is wrong with the release mechinism with these new prescription. How can i find out?
