Vyvanse Changed My Life. For Better Or For Worse?

Updated

Hi. I was depressed for quite sometime. I just started seeing a psychiatrist at the time and he had diagnosed me with ADHD and depression. I was only 13 at the time. Before my old doctor moved away he prescribed me anti-depressants at first but I ended up taking them all at once and went out partying that night and ended up getting really sick. So he stopped my prescription. I started seeing a therapist after that 3 times a week along with my psychiatrist on the same days. During the 6 months I was seeing them I started to come out of my depression and was really happy. We tried numerous ADHD medications. Both stimulants & non-stimulants. Out of all the ADHD medications out there, I responded to Vyvanse the best. Now I favor the stimulants more because the side affect that would come with the non-stimulants was too big of a risk for me. But Vyvanse stays in my system for an extremely long time. I take it every morning at 7:30 and it takes about 45 minutes to kick in so I quickly eat breakfast. I usually have it made before I take the pill. After that I can't eat till around 10 pm and only a really small meal made up of vegetables & fruits only or else I'll get an upset stomach. I can't actually sleep until midnight and the latest I'm up is 2 am. I've become an extremely light sleeper because I wake up to frequently urinate but I much rather live like this and be happy then try anything else that don't have these side effects and fall back into another depression. They work really well for me and I can easily concentrate on my homework and have noticed an improvement in my grades. I went from having 50% to high 60%'s in junior high and part of high school to my lowest mark being a 76% and maintaining high 80%'s. But a year later my doctor moved away to another city and I was transferred to a new doctor that was just hired. Now she was a qualified professional with many years of experience before receiving me as a patient. She first prescribed me a non-stimulant that was insane. Now I didn't read the side affects when I first started taking them but after a week I started to feel worse. My life was going great but I didn't seem to enjoy it. I started to withdrawal myself from friends and family. I started crying every night, had suicidal thoughts and even cut my wrist a couple of times one night. After that I decided to read the side affects sheet. It was a large sheet double sided filled with crazy side affects and one section stated: irritability, mania, aggression, drowsiness, dizziness, sleeping problems, a high increased chance of depression, suicidal thoughts & actions. I immediately stopped taking the medication and wondered if my doctor had even read my file. I haven't gone back to see her ever since and I haven't been taking any medication for about a year now and now I'm wanting to go back onto the Vyvanse again because I had done so well on them and didn't mind the side affects.

This website doesn't prescribe nor sell any medications, it is an information only website.

Thus, if you want to try to get back on the Vyvanse, you will need to find a doctor that you feel comfortable seeing.

Learn more Vyvanse details here.

Do you have insurance? They may be able to help recommend a doctor or clinic that you can try going to.

Hi. I'm 21 and i have been on vyvanse since i was about 14. I was making mostly D's and C's if I was lucky. 7 Years later I have attempted suicide multiple times, lost many friends (due to the sporatic mood changes vyvanse causes), Developed an eating disorder (bc I forgot how to regulate my hunger without vyvanse), got pregnant at 18 (bc vyvanse tremendously increased my sex drive to a point that was unhealthy), gone to a rehab (to try and learn to live a happy life without vyvanse), left the rehab after 3 months without vyvanse bc the craving was still incredibly and painfully strong, and I just lost the love of my life bc he doesn't think i feel as much when I'm on vyvanse. This medicine is the most addictive thing I have ever encountered. I love it yet i hate it. You were warned.
