I've been diagnosed with ADHD for several years now and and been on Adderall and Ritalin. I didn't think the Adderall was very effective so I switched but after a few months on the Ritalin I'm beginning to think it might be to intense for me. My friend is on Vyvanse and she says it's the best medication she's taken for ADHD, so I would just like to know your thoughts.

Just to add some information or anyone else seeking…

Any time you're trying to treat a medical condition, it can be a matter of trial and error to find a medication that works for the person, without causing unwanted problematic side effects.

Some people get lucky with the first one they try, but there are others that may need to try several different medications in any given therapeutic class, in several different dosages, until they find the right one.

It may even turn out to be a combination of medications that works best for someone.

However, only you, with the help of your doctor, can actually decide what works best for you, while causing the fewest issues.

I would agree with your friend.i have been on all of them Ritalin,adderall,concerta,the non stimulates,until vyvanse I was on Dexedrine ER.i am 37 diagnosed at age 6,never kept at treatment.so like so many others with ADHD I self medicated,pot,alcohol,then I found the best after I broke back.opiates,it was perfect I thought more outgoing,social,felt I could think straight,but got bad out of control 12 years out of control and it didn't work like it did.im talking about lorcet 10 at my worst was taking 25-30 a day.finally after getting in alot of trouble,losing loved ones I found suboxone,thank god.so I was 3 years Into suboxone treatment,but still has issues.depression,anxiety,kept to self,could not finish something I started always get sidetracked.So I went to psychiatrist,I told him about everything.and he told me the lack of treatment for other issues is affecting you.Since I was 3 years off lorcets he said lets treat ADHD,anxiety,depression,so he put me on klonopin for anxiety,vyvanse 50mg for ADHD also said it would help depression which it did also put me on Zoloft.so just now at 37 am I getting my life in order.i am happier than ever got family,friends,dating,actually organized ,do all the things in supposed too,got motivation,my little sister said it when she told husband I have my big brother back.anyway the vyvanse has worked best and lasted longest.also helping me get off suboxone.sorry it was long but wanted to tell story in case anybody else has similar issues.
