Voveran-d And Zofer Side Effects And Use

Updated

Greetings,

My daughter was 11 years and 8 months old (with a body weight of 33 kgs) when she passed away on September 28th, 2017. She was suffering from a high fever which started on the 26th of September in the morning. She was treated at home by her uncle who is an MD in general medicine from the US. Mentioned below are the sequence of events that took place with the timeline:

26 September, 12:00 pm: She was having a fever around 102 F and was given half a tablet of Dolo 650 mg (Paracetamol)

26 September, 3:30 pm: The temperature soared to 105 F. She was treated with cold water wipes to reduce the temperature. As the temperature didn’t subside, her uncle advised us to give her first dose of Voveran-D (50 mg) dispersible tablet. The tablet was dropped in a glass of water and after it dissolved she consumed half of the water, and the remaining water with medicine was discarded.

26 September, 4:30 pm: Her body temperature subsided to normal temperature. Then she took normal food and was very active before and after the dinner.

26 September, 11:00 pm: Her body temperature rises to 101 F and she was given Fevadol tablet (Paracetamol 500mg).

27 September, 1:30 am: In the night the temperature reached to 105 F and to control the temperature second dose of Voveran-D (50mg) was repeated as before and she slept while the temperature subsided.

27 September, 3:30 am: She woke up in the night with the confused state of mind and she was murmuring. She was given a glass of water and few slices of apple. Then she went to sleep till the morning with no temperature.

27 September, 9:00 am: She woke up complaining of nausea and temperature around 102 F. After eating some breakfast she was given Fevadol tablet (Paracetamol 500 mg)

27 September, 10:30 am: The nausea symptom was aggravated with severe pain in the back of the neck. She was given zofer tablet 4mg.

27 September, 2:00 pm: In the afternoon, the third dose of Voveran-D was given due to severe pain in the back of neck.

27 September, 2:30 pm: The diagnostic center technician came home to collect the sample of blood to perform the diagnostic on Dengue, Malaria, and Jaundice.

27 September, 4:00 pm: She started vomiting three times within an hour.

27 September, 6:00 pm: She took a slice of bread with some milk. After taking the food, she slept for about an hour and she wake up she was in confused state of mind and having the same complaints of nausea and pain in the back of neck.

27 September, 7:30 pm: The lab technician brought the results of the diagnostics which proved that Dengue, Malaria and Jaundice were negative.

27 September, 8:30 pm: Due to nausea, neck pain and body pain she was given Dolo tablet and Ondem syrup pediatric dose which she vomited immediately.

27 September, 9:30 pm: She was given an injection of Zofer to alleviate the symptoms of nausea which temporarily reduced the nausea for a while and within next 30 minutes she was given zofer tablet.

27 September, 10:30 pm: After these medications, her nausea symptoms are persistent and she started complaining severe pain in hand, legs and head ache. Her body temperature was also low and she was suffering from severe lethargical condition.

27 September, 11:30 pm: She was very fond of coconut water and she took several sips from the glass as she was not willing to eat anything as she feels the taste of Voveran-D dose was also sweet. As she said that everything she thinks to eat even normal bread or curry she feels/thought of having sweet taste.

27 September, 12:00 pm: She went to sleep in another bedroom with AC and was lying on the bed.

27 September, 12:15 pm: At around 12: 00 am she went to toilet and passes the stool without urine and return to bed in very weak condition and just managed to through herself on the bed. Then she was given coconut water to drink and she had couple of sips.

27 September, 12:30 am: While lying on the bed she slipped into semi-unconscious state and started murmuring. When her mother took hold of her in the lap she notices that her lips were already turning black. Immediately she started giving her sips of water with spoon which she was unable to drink and water flowed out of mouth. Immediately, she entered into a state of seizure which lasted around 1-2 minutes with her limbs and neck stretched with distress. As the seizure subsided she was unconscious and her body was completely loose as if no control of motions.

27 September, 12:45 am: We rushed her to the nearest hospital to discover that there is no heart beat and after performing CPR for while the pulse didn’t return and the doctors in the emergency unit declared that she was dead.

As she was not having any serious viral or bacterial infections proved from the medical reports and she doesn’t have any previous history of any serious illness, we are baffled with the sudden demise of our daughter in the mysterious conditions. We would like to analyze and investigate the cause of her death for future precautions and need your advice on the administration of medicines during the last two days of her life. As we recount the incidents of the last two days, we noted that her breath was very short while examining her stomach for the loss of body fluids with vomiting. Also, she had a rash which turned to dark blue on her neck and on the back of her body. From the research on the internet about the Voveran-D and Zofer injection side effects it is obvious that one of the medications might've proved fatal. I would appreciate someone's analysis of the above stages of treatment and identification of any other possible cause of her death.

Very sorry for the death of your daughter. Just to cover all aspects of your daughters death because it seems as though you were very observant of her with your logs, Could it have been possible for her to ingest something without your observation? If so, I would suggest to have a heavy metal blood test for some kind of poisoning. It's just to cover all aspects of her death not to leave any doubt since she did not appear to have any type of bacterial or viral conditions.

Eternal rest grant unto this poor child, O Lord. A beautiful innocent soul. 11 years is such a beautiful age. There is still the innocence and vulnerability of the child and that age hints to the woman to come. I am sad for you. But grateful for the loving presence of mother and father though out this tragedy. May God bring peace and consolation to you as you work through the mystery of this unlikely death.

Abdul, a fever of 105° is very unusual. That and the malaria diagnosis is enough to cause death. Dehydration is very likely. My good friend's 11 year old son had nausea and vomiting. No fever but this went on for a week. Finally they took him to the hospital and within 25 minutes the child was having fluid drained from a brain tumor. She was told that her son would be dead had they waited 12 more hours to bring him in. Gosh, it could be any number of things. I'm so sorry for your loss. God bless.

The temp of 105 F indicates some cause, most likely viral or bacteria. Combine this with the most common. Tests were done for malaria and dengue. Are you in the tropics? If not, the most likely association is meningitis, especially if she was complaining of neck pain. I doubt the medication contributed.

I'm so sorry for the loss of your daughter Abdul. My 1st thoughts with the severe neck pain & headache was Meningitis. I'm wondering why the Drs. didn't test for that?
With those symptoms & also with that high of a temperature your Dr. should've admitted her to the hospital. Very sad.
