Very Tired When Will This End??

Today is my 5th full day of Belviq and I am exhausted. I'm tired and a little dizzy all day, but at night I seem to have trouble falling asleep - but once asleep I am out cold. Can you tell me how long this will last? Should it start getting better? I hate the side effects but have already lost 6 pounds, which is just a miracle. I want to stay on this, but being tired is just making things so hard!

Hello, Kim! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem that you're having.

The FDA does list that this medication can cause fatigue, as a side effect, along with chills, peripheral edema, headache and skin rash.

However, side effects usually do go away, once your body gets used to a medication, so they will generally hit their full intensity at about 3 to 4 weeks in, then they should taper off and eventually go away entirely.

If they don't, or if it gets too severe, you should speak to your doctor as this may not be the right medication for you.

I started Aug.3, 2015, and after about a week I got over the severe fatigue, got my energy back and felt pretty much normal.The drug took about 4 or 5 days to affect my appetite too. I've been on it about 3 1/2 months and have lost 18 lbs, and that's after a cruise and living my life as usual (birthday parties, going out to dinner, etc.) I just eat less, snack less and and exercise on average of 30 min a day (but varies a lot.) Belviq is not a miracle drug but it's helping and I'm still living my normal life. The only thing I notice is that I sleep better (good) but more (not so good). No more insomnia but I can easily sleep 10 hours and never want to get up, whereas before I'd pop out of bed after 7 or 7 1/2 hours. But besides that I feel great and healthy on it. I'm 59, 5 ft. 2, and starting wt. was 203. I'll add (because I was looking for this type of info when trying to decide whether to take it) - I don't have history of depression, never been on an SSRI or psychotropic med. I don't know if any of that would make a difference in how it works but I think I was probably a good candidate for the drug.
