I have been on Cymbalta for RSD/CRPS pain and my VA doctor wants me to switch to VENLAFAXINE HCL 75MG 24HR SA CAP. She is saying I do not need to dosage down off the cymbalta and to just start taking the VENLAFAXINE HCL 75MG 24HR SA CAP 2x's per day. I am concerned as I do not see anything in the listing for being used for nerve pain. Just for Depression. Can you please tell me if this is used for RSD/CRPS pain? My pharmacist states it will not be effective for the pain. I am not depressed and I am already taking 38 pills per day.

Hello, Bobbette! How are you?

Both of these medications are classified by the FDA as being SNRIs, which means you can switch cleanly from one to the other and they are both used to treat the same conditions.

Typical side effects are listed as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and weight changes.

It's likely that you're doctor is hoping that the time released formulation will help you get better pain control.

Is there anything else I can help with?

It's true that it can be used for neuropathy.

Plus I lost weight as it eliminated my appetite.

I have been on venlafaxine 75mg ER for about 3 years. It helped me right away. I have felt so much better since taking it. I have no side effects at all. I so have trouble sleeping but I always have so I dont think it's from the venlafaxine. I am starting to get concerned though about continuing to take it as I have read it can cause a build of of serotonin in your system that is deadly. Does anyone have any information about this? I have also read that it's extremely hard to stop taking and has horrible withdrawls.

I started on Venlafaxine 75 mg almost 3 weeks ago and I now cannot sleep. When will this get better? Is this normal with this medication?
