Hi as per doctor he diagnosed me with Jaundice and he advised me to take ursocol 300,just wanted to know is it used ursocol 300 to cure Jaundice ....

My billirubin level is 2.4, sgpt 54, hep B -ve, hep C -ve. I have been affected by jaundice for about 5 yrs. My doctor prescribed ursocol 300mg & esomenta 20 mg to take twice a day for about 1 month. What more can I do & is it very serious?

Ursocol 300 is not sold in the United States so I don't have a reliable source to give you information on the contents and warnings of this particular medication, however, it is shown that Ursocol 300 contains the active ingredient Ursodeoxycholic Acid. Ursodeoxycholic Acid is reported by the NIH to be increasingly used for the treatment of cholestatic liver diseases. It does not list weather or not jaundice is among the liver diseases that it treats. Below is a link to the publication I sourced my information from as well as some additional information.

Did your doctor tell you the root cause of your jaundice? The reason I ask is that the NIH, along with other less credible websites, claim that Ursodeoxycholic Acid should not be taken if you have persistent liver diseases, some of which are possible causes of jaundice.
