Upper Back Scabs (Top voted first)

Itching painful scabs developed about two months ago,i work as a live in caregiver to an elderly,im there 4 days q week 24 hours a day.when I come home,it seems like they get a little better.I sleep on the sofa at work,thought it might be bedbugs or allergy to material but I've been there for 2 years so IDK.

OK,no one has ever had before,maybe this will help someone.i took a few pictures of my back and sent to my doctor.He said it looks like scabies and ordered a zpak and Lindane lotion.apply from neck down to the bottom of the feet.Hope you never have to go through this,wasnt fun.

That would be odd, usually scabies covers the entire body from the neck down and it forms angular patterns that may resemble geometric shapes, or letters... and an antibiotic, such as the Z Pak is not appropriate for treating them, since they are not an infectious bacteria, but rather a type of skin mite, similar to lice. They also don't usually cause scabbing, more commonly they form little red bumps that look like flea bites and sometimes have a visible tunnel going from one spot to the next and they are not painful. Scabies will also be worse, whenever you are warm, such as under a blanket, or when you take a hot bath, or shower, they would not ease up, when you were off and at home for a few days. The Lindane may cause side effects, such as skin irritation, redness, dryness, and flaking, according to the FDA.

If it is isolated to just your upper back area, I'd be more inclined to guess that it is bed bugs.

There's also a chance you may have developed Shingles, if you've ever had Chicken Pox, since it can occur anywhere.... although it usually manifests as blisters, but if you were asleep when it happened, you may not have noticed, until after they broke and formed the scabs.

Have you considered consulting a dermatologist? They might be the best person to help.

Thank you for reply and advice,it actually did start out as pimple looking.the scabbing came from my scratching while asleep.i had shingles last year,very mild case.But since you brought it wouldn't hurt to take another round of Zovirax.Had a refill.i have appointment Friday with dermatologist.Seems the Lindane helped some,thanks again..
