Using Bystolic For Pvc's

Updated

I HAVE CHRONIC MILD TO MODERATE AORTIC REGURGITATION. ON OCCASION, I HAVE SOME ISSUES WITH PVC'S. MY CARDIOLOGIST ADVISED ME TO USE BYSTOLIC 2.5 TO 5 MG AS NEEDED FOR THIS. IS THIS A COMMON PRACTICE.

Hi, Linda! Sorry about the problems you're having.

Bo, the 'as needed' part isn't typical. Usually, these types of medications are taken on a regular basis, because it takes them awhile to reach their full level of effectiveness in the body and preventing the PVCs is easier than stopping them, once they've started.

Learn more Bystolic details here.

It's not going to have much effect, if only taken 'as needed', which is why they aren't prescribed that way for blood pressure or other cardiac conditions. Additionally, they take about 15 to 20 minutes to start entering your blood stream to have an effect, when you do take them, so your problem may already be over, or escalating beyond the help of the medication, by that time.

Are you on any other medications for it?

I had PVCs for about 10 years. I also had mild aortic regurgitation when the PVCs first started. As the regurgitation got worse so did the PVCs. Eventually, after 10 years my aortic regurgitation got very bad and I had to have my aortic valve replaced. I woke up after surgery with no PVCs and my rate is still regular 2 years post surgery. I am 27 and I feel great since having my valve replaced. I found it odd that all those years the leaking valve was causing the PVCs. Especially, when I was told the mild leak was not bad enough to really cause any problems. Not that I think my physicians did anything wrong or that I should have had the valve replaced incredibly early. Just sharing my story.

Thanks for your post. My Doc has tried everything for my pvc's (started in Jan 2013) I was 48. After 2 rounds of Insanity. I'm on Bystolic now, up from 5mg to 10 now 20. Still having them. Now my BP is going up! My Dad has had a mitral valve repair, but they have said I don't have any valve problems! Getting so frustrated as I have them bad pretty much every day. Meds work for about a month then stop. I love to workout but it makes me suffer afterward. Not even sure I'm gonna be able to continue being a Firefighter at this rate. Your post helps with questions though
