I have a deep, recurring cough that only this medication has been able to stop in the past. I know the FDA banned it and the infuriating reasons why. I would like to know if there is anywhere I can purchase it today.

Hi Kelly - did you ever find Turpin Hydrate ? My Mom use to give this to us back in the 70's & early 80's for cough/cold. I could sure use some now - have a cough that won't quit. My sis. & I just remembered the name of it after weeks of struggling to pinpoint it. Please let me know if you've found it & where. Thanks

Hello, I just got a bottle of Terpin Hydrate! LEGALLY!!! Apparently a compounding pharmacy can make it for you - I went to Family Pharmacy in Sarasota, FL. (Cost was around $100?! but as anyone who has used this knows, the stuff works. This didn't taste the same as I remember, probably due to different flavorings they had 30 years ago. BUT: the HARD part is trying to find a doctor willing to write the Rx for it! I went to a walk-in here in Sarasota and found an amazing doctor working that day - I think he was Chinese, and better informed as to the workings of medications derived from natural backgrounds as well as stuff coming out of a chemical lab. He wrote me an rx & I got it filled right away. Took a few days since they apparently had to ship the terp in, but I still have it (will prolly be good for a few years). Hope this helps!

Hey, I found a supplier on internet for terpine hydrate, called them up and within 3 days got my terpine hydrate, great service. It has great effect in curing my cough. The manufacturer is from India. You can google "naturalmenthol A.G. Industries" for more specific details.

Michael Says:

You obtain the powder and either make capsules with it or do this to make the elixer Other Name: Elixir Terpini Hydratis

Formula:

Terpin hydrate 17 g
Sweet Orange Peel Tincture 20 ml
Benzaldehyde 0.05 ml
Glycerin 400 ml
Syrup 100 ml
Alcohol 430 ml
Purified Water, q.s. _________
To make 1000 ml

Preparation:

Dissolve the terpin hydrate in the alcohol, add the rest of the ingredients and sufficient quantity of purified water to make 1000 ml. Mix and filter, if necessary.

Dose: Usual dose is 5 ml which is equivalent to 85 mg of terpin hydrate.

Note: The terpin hydrate is dissolved due to the high alcoholic content of the elixir. Sweet orange peel tincture may be replaced by 1 ml of orange oil dissolved in 15 ml of alcohol.

Incompatibilities: Dilution of this elixir with water or liquids with low alcoholic content causes precipitation of the terpin hydrate.

Re: Alex (# 6)

Did you actually purchase from the supplier? I hate to give my name, etc unless it is a legitimate company, you know what I mean?
