Trying To Walk Off Methadone Clinic

Updated

I am planning to walk off my clinic in a few days and im not to sure what my best options is. I was thinking of taking my last dose of 40mgs sundays at 7am and then narcan myself Monday am and start suboxone for a few days on Tuesday. ive tried to walk off before and I can never get past the 72 hr point to start suboxone, but also ive always been on an extremely high dose of 185-230mgs but this past year I have tapered off slowly. I am already not feeling great cause the 40mgs does not hold me. does anyone have any options or ideas for me that would be better than narcan myself or having to cold turkey for few days.

StaceyLynn,

Congratulations on taking this big step!

As I'm sure you are aware Methadone is considered to be one of the most addictive substances available and the journey ahead will be difficult but definitely worth pushing through.

I have done quite a bit of searching and everything brings up the same results, the number 1 best idea to help you with your struggle is going to be having a strong support system set up behind you. Family, friends and those close to you can help you get through this difficult time.

There are many government support lines that will also help you such as SAMHSA who you can contact at 1-800-662-HELP. If you feel like you are slipping they are there to help you through.

According to the American addiction centers website going cold turkey is not advisable without a medical professional present. Tapering off to extremely low doses is the most preferred method. They go on to say that symptoms are the worst for the first week, so having that support team ready right away is going to be important.

I hope this helps.

Hey StaceyLynn!
Wow this is a really big step and I acknowledge you. Fighting off the horro of the addiction is quite something and I can tell you are committed. It's going to take a lot, and it's going to mean even more that you stay clean. NA meetigns help, and changing your routine. Do everything newly, do everything differently, and stay away form any of your friends who you may have used with or been with or are holding. Staty strong; you are through the worst of it.... keep going... it really is much better at 30 days clean, your brain has to reset and that just takes time. Nothing else. And.... you got this!!!

Good job getting off now as a former Suboxone user clean for about 2 years be very careful make sure you jump on Suboxone only for a few days so that you don't get a new addiction to it. If you need any help with anything let me know. I've been there done that and had help along the way. Like an over the counter med called Restful Legs (made by Hyland's) helped me sleep at night. Also a supplement called GABA helps with getting you tired.

I have a suggestion.

First. Loperamide (over the counter anti diarheal is an opiate), it will help with some symptoms.

The second is look into mitrygyna speciosa (commonly called Kratom). You can buy it certain local head shops or even gas stations. Kratom contains morphine alkaloids. For me it’s like Tylenol 3. A much weaker form of codeine. Kratom may be addictive to some people, but it helped me stomp out an addiction to 60-100mg a day of oxy.

Good Luck.

Re: David (# 5) Expand Referenced Message

Kratom has also helped me thru withdrawals immensely. I would not have hopped off methadone at 40...….I did it at 10mg & was pretty good. The WORST of all detoxes is suboxone. The crap gets into every cell of your body & is 10x's harder to kick than methadone or other opiates. So don't get a habit on that crap. Good luck.
