Trying To Find Out What Lyme Disease Medications My Husband Took That May Have Caused Positive Test Result Of Cocaine And Amphetamines.

Working in toxic sewage and sludge as a plumber under a famous hotel in Yosemite mtns. my husband got very ill (fever, seizures, dizziness, hallucinations) and was flown out to the hospital were he remained for about 2 weeks. There was no official diagnosis, but was said to be possible lyme disease or something else. He was released back to work about 6 weeks later (without a check-up, just told he was released), still having dizziness and light blackout spells. Days after, he had a blackout, caused an auto accident. The hospital said he tested positive for cocaine and amphetamines. As he was ill, the last thing he would have done was take unprescribed medication (he was taking medication for anxiety, infection and pain, and is very careful about such things. What medications can cause positive results if someone is not taking drugs? Your help will be appreciated.

Well, since it was Lyme's disease, I have to assume he was on antibiotics and there are many of them that do cause a false positive for Cocaine, such as Amoxicillin.

As to the false positive for Amphetamines, there are many medications that can cause that, far too many for me to list here.

Do you have any idea what medications they gave him?

It's hard to say, there are always incorrect or faulty tests. I was in pain mgmt. And I had been taking Welbutrin for years. Well I had to go 2 weeks without (insurance problems) so I got some name brand samples from my shrink in two days went to Pain Mgmt follow up , another u/a they gave , of coarse I wasn't worried, well test came up positive for amphetamines or and methamphetamine, I know I didn't do any street drugs for years. Am I say I never did drugs like that no I am guilty of experimental phases of my life like 15 years ago and if I was gonna do such a drug I know it takes 3_5 days to rid of my body of this mind of drugs. Sad to say it was 3 yeR struggle proving myself to these Dr.s they u/a d me for 2 yeArs, I chose to and went to counseling. They still never gave my meds back. 2 years of excruciating pain and suicidal ideations, moved out of that state finally got my life back on track ....Well with my meds and pain, I still don't use them drugs they hurt my body literally and I. Trying to heal...that is awful to go thru, especially when u need care as it seems your husband will need ongoing. I hope he's feeling better and has found a correct diagnosis
